Actually, the police came to Locthe and he gave a false statement. He also made a big deal by constantly grandstanding in the media. If he had stayed away from the media, none of this would have happened. |
| What exactly was the damage to the bathroom? NBC showed it this morning and there was t any visible. Has that been clarified? |
Never mind. And the gun brandishing, that wasn't at all extortion-like. (The English word you're looking for is "shakedown". All legal in Brazil.) |
| We don't know what was in the official testimony Lochte and Feigen gave to the police. The police said that it did not match what Lochte told the press so that leads me to believe it was closer to the actual version of events. If what happened--demanding money at gunpoint--is not a crime in Brazil, then how can reporting it be considered falsifying a crime report? |
Lol, apparently not such good friends. |

Honestly once it got out to the media via his mom or girlfriend or whoever, Ryan should have NOT gone to the media himself AND when the authorities came knocking for a statement he should have said -- sorry guys, no robbery, no harm, you see I was out late partying with my bros and figured my mommy would be mad so I made up a little white lie so she wouldn't yell at me, little did I know she'd blab to the world, you have overbearing moms, you know how it is . . . .
He should have just spun it as a domestic matter and been done with it. But he's an attention seeker . . . . |
One of the main reasons that the Rio police initially investigated was because the video of them returning didn't show them upset. Turns out, Lochte was upset and said so, to NBC. He just acted cool when returning to the Village. Yes, he's not super bright, but in the US, that's not a crime. The Rio police, however, are nuts. |

According to the paper this morning the swimmers met with USOC and State Dept and everyone agreed not to talk about it and let it get resolved/blow over, and then Lochte walked across the street and gave a tv interview with his BS story.
I hope USOC finds some way to show that this is unacceptable-- even if it's meaningless like kicking him off the team. |
|
I'd like to know if the Brazilian police/authorities put so much effort into solving local crimes, violence and deaths. Oh wait, no they don't. Crime is rampant in the Favellas, briery is out of control (aka "charitable contributions") and majority of Brazilians are living is poverty. (Part of the reason there are so many empty seats at the Olympics.)
So while these swimmers did damage, a broken door, soap dish or advertisement with a metal frame, does not warrant the extreme reaction from Brazil. They only reacted that way because they were Amerian$$. |
Attention seeker. Plain and simple. The other 3 didn't say much at all publicly -- maybe bc they were abiding by what the USOC/State Dept told them to do. 2 said nothing, and I think Gunnar Bentz tweeted out that he was safe. |
Eventually Feigen agreed that there was an armed robbery. This was Wednesday or Thursday, after everything was blowing up. |
Yeah. I mean on Sunday right after it happened. 2 said nothing -- one did a tweet saying he was safe and that's it. It was Ryan who was out blabbing to anyone and everyone who'd listen. Wonder if USOC can fine him or something just to send the message that regardless of how the Brazilians handled it, US athletes better listen to the USOC when at a foreign games. Barring him from the next few swimming contests would do nothing -- USA Swimming would have to do that -- and he's 32 and close to retirement; I highly doubt he'll compete on the entire circuit for the next 3 yrs. Most likely he'll goof off for 3 yrs and then in 2019 start prepping to try to make it to Tokyo. |
That's because there WAS AN ARMED ROBBERY. Person points gun + demands money = armed robbery. Why aren't people getting that?! Lochte isn't very smart, we all know that. He should not have done that iPhone interview with Billy Bush, but he was shaken up, he was caught off guard, he wasn't with his PR people...Not sure he knew any better so he did the interview. |
If you're overwhelmed and you go meet with the State Dept and the USOC and they say -- don't talk to anyone about it, let it blow over. In what universe does that translate to -- leave meeting; walk across the street; find Billy Bush; and give an interview?? Whether your PR guys are with your or not, you should be thinking -- State Dept/USOC told me not to talk, so I guess I'll leave here, go back to the village, and grab myself a pizza for lunch. |
This was after his mom blabbed to the press. He was approached by the media, it's not like he ran over to them to break the story. I'm not saying mistakes weren't made, but I believe those guys were wronged. Were the details matched up perfectly? No. Did they leave out their wrong doing? Yes. But that still doesn't excuse the fact that they were held at gunpoint and demanded to give up their cash. |
