Leonardo DiCaprio is the best living actor

George is very one-note, but he’s very good at that note (Michael Clayton comes to mind).

Similarly, Denzel is always Denzeling, but it’s mesmerizing to watch.

Jack Nicholson is still alive.

What are you? Millennials?

I don’t understand the obsession with him. He’s not a hair better than “okay”.

So you think he’s the same in Wolf of Wall Street, Revolutionary Road, Django Unchained, Basketball Diaries, and Shutter Island (to name a few)?

Ok.

Yes. I never get lost in a performance. Very aware that I’m watching Leo at all times when he’s on screen.

Not saying he’s bad. But he’s definitely overrated.

Love Jack, but he really chews the scenery sometimes

He sucks. He’s a great movie star; not a great actor.

Leo is fine but not as diverse.

Gary Oldman is amazing. He had one or maybe two scenes in Oppenheimer playing Harry Truman and he was so good. You forget it's him.

British actors are in a league of their own. Leo is similar to Brad Pitt and George Clooney--limited range.

I kept thinking of British actors:
Anthony Hopkins
Kenneth Branagh
Benedict Cumberbatch
David Tennant
Ben Kingsley

On the American side:
Dustin Hoffman!!! (I can’t believe he hasn’t been listed)
Meryl Streep
Tom Hanks
Jodie Foster
Morgan Freeman

This is a great list! I agree that Brad Pitt, Leo and George Clooney are pretty faces with limited talent.

Pitt isn’t the best of the bunch but don’t agree he doesn’t have range. Burn After, 12 Monkeys, Fight Club to name a few are all very different characters.

+1 all day long.

I’m embarrassed that I forgot about female actors

To me those are actresses

Four pages in and no mention of Robert DeNiro.

Dude. It's on page 2. Read first.

Daniel Day Lewis is better.

Good, he is on short list.

Your snark was unnecessary.

Leo IMO gave his best performance in The Aviator. While Cate Blanchett (another MVP) won the Oscar for that one I also think Alan Alda gave an amazing performance in that one as well, he gave a very chilling but subtle portrayal of evil in that movie.

Jeffrey Wright I always find compelling to watch. He was particularly good in the first season of West World.

Olivia Colman is someone who can be both hysterically funny and devastating. She has insane range.

No, it was lazy and unnecessary to say "no mention" in such a short thread. At least try, a little bit.

Yeah, American actors tend to coast on charisma. Hard to think of any that have tremendous range a la the Brits. Emma Stone is pretty fearless, and Carrie Coon, hard to think of any men who are similar. Maybe Jesse Plemmons, who is very talented. It's always the character actors not the conventional leading men.
