| Daniel Day Lewis is better. |
Good, he is on short list. Your snark was unnecessary. |

Leo IMO gave his best performance in The Aviator. While Cate Blanchett (another MVP) won the Oscar for that one I also think Alan Alda gave an amazing performance in that one as well, he gave a very chilling but subtle portrayal of evil in that movie.
Jeffrey Wright I always find compelling to watch. He was particularly good in the first season of West World. Olivia Colman is someone who can be both hysterically funny and devastating. She has insane range. |
No, it was lazy and unnecessary to say "no mention" in such a short thread. At least try, a little bit. |
Yeah, American actors tend to coast on charisma. Hard to think of any that have tremendous range a la the Brits. Emma Stone is pretty fearless, and Carrie Coon, hard to think of any men who are similar. Maybe Jesse Plemmons, who is very talented. It's always the character actors not the conventional leading men. |
Thank you for saying this. For some reason, there is some unspoken bias against him (he should have won the Oscar for The Wolf of Wall Street): I dunno if it’s because he’s so cagey about his private life, that he was kind of a pretty boy in the nineties, or Titanic - which is a great movie, by the way - or what. |

He's very intelligent, has what I consider to be an unfortunately lifestyle, and is a very good actor. The best living? No, but then, I don't like to give that accolade to anyone. A lot of actresses and actors are excellent. That's it. |
It’s knee jerk contrarianism. He’s popular and mainstream and makes good movies so contrarians need to go against the grain. It’s like hating a band you used to love once they become popular. It’s not that they have an especially refined taste in movies they just need to be different. |
| Phillip. Seymour. Hoffman. |
Um, unfortunate choice in light of thread title. |
Hear me out. It’s also that he’s just not that good. Very much a one-trick pony. |
You must not be familiar with many if his movies bc that’s just not true. |
+1 He even Denzeled in Gladiator! |
+1 Benjamin Button, Snatch, Seven Years in Tibet - I personally think Brad Pitt is a great actor. |
