Touché. Or do you get as equally upset about school shootings? Personally, I’d rather my kids be trans than dead.

Where's the school for parents who support banning assault weapons, object to school shootings, and oppose teaching 11 year olds thet they can choose their gender?

I think it’s called Catholic school.

You are the only one to use those words.

Normalization is a better term.

What's wrong with treating normal things as normal? Is leaning in on making vulnerable 11-13 year olds feel abnormal really the hill you want to die on here? You guys really don't care how many kids' mental health you sacrifice in your attempt to keep your own precious kids from being exposed to things that make you uncomfortable because you don't personally understand them (spoiler alert: you can't stop it, your kids will find out anyway.)

Again, the nonbinary concept is an emerging, radical idea in gender ideology. It is not yet seen as “normal,” though you and your allies are obviously working hard to make it so.

Why not teach 11 year olds to treat EVERYONE with respect without specifying each letter of LBGBTQWTF+++? I don't shy away telling my kids anything, I can explain what a trans gender person is mysrlf. Why do we have waste time on concepts that affect 1% of population?

My kid goes to westland and I only learned about this in the news. No opportunity to opt out that I was aware of.

If true, and I'm sure it is, it's just more of MCPS is pushing a totally inappropriate-for-kids social contagion. I would not have wanted my kid subject to this stuff. But it has been going on since elementary school.

How does a kid being trans stop school shootings? Aren't most of the shooters trans now?

Read upthread the post writing that the presentation did not happen as described by the media. For example, there was no discussion of breast-binding.

MCPS has learned nothing from its costly Supreme Court loss.

Except that Westland didn't do that. It's an invention by the media sources presented by OP.

Maybe you want to verify before piling on.

Can someone share what was presented?

Why does it have to be one or the other? How about neither.

We could have had neither, if we didn’t have public figures spewing hateful messages, parents taught to respect differences, and had gun control. But this is not the world we live in. We have had kids write nazi symbols in bathrooms. I’d rather have MCPS send messages of respect and acceptance in this day and age.

You know what I am scared of? That now that the school is all over the conservative media, some psycho will drive up and try to liberate the kids a la Comet pizza gate. But seems that OP and whichever parents went to conservative media prefer that to trans people feeling normal.

I’m waiting patiently for some angry conservative to explain the potential harm.

I just don’t see why letting people be recognized as trans and/or nonbinary is a problem.

I also don’t get why they think someone presenting in a school is magically effective at persuading kids of anything. Surely kids should be exposed to conflicting and varied human beliefs in school? Isn’t that the point of school?

It’s not like we decide how the world is, make a slideshow, and graduate unflinchingly orthodox kids.

I mean haven’t you guys ever met someone who went to Catholic school? I actually don’t know any devout Catholic school alumni.

I do. But of course, it’s no guarantee.

A lot of the discussion here reflects that people have strong feelings about what content their children are exposed to in school. MCPS should be more mindful of that when selecting speakers, particularly given the context of the prior lawsuit.

I for one am thrilled that the government is prioritizing learning about transgenderism at the expense of boring uncool topics like history, math, science, and language.

Yes, American student academic outcomes are falling behind the rest of the world every year, but our society will be so much better now that kids understand this new way of thinking. Hopefully they have a module that covers the experimental lifesaving “medical care” that is now available to many students as well.

A wonderful and strategic use of taxpayer funds.

Is this real? Why the f do sixth graders need a “Transgender Awareness Week”?
