Jussie Smollett attacked

I originally believed this story to be 100% true, but am reading today that the two men who were arrested but released may have spilled some beans.

That they were actually financially compensated to commit these acts or at the very least ->> Collaborate their story to Jessie.

I never had heard of this Empire actor prior to all of this, but now know fully well who he is.
If he staged this to become more famous AND it is proven, then he should be blacklisted from Hollywood.

His actions would have made it harder to believe other people who truly have been attacked for their race + sexual orientation.

And that would be the ultimate travesty in this case.

I guess like everyone else.....
I will need to stay tuned.

This guy is a complete and total waste of space on the earth. Doesn’t help his cause to just make up lies and blame white people with a rope. Give me a break.

Re: the bolded, what a ridiculous statement. I voted for Trump. Exactly what should I be feeling "more entitled" to, now that Smollett's lies have been discovered? Other than that, I completely agree with your post.

It doesn't make MAGA people more entitled. Entitled to what?
It is actually quite sad, IMO. I think it is horribly sad that he felt the need to make up a crime to vilify millions of people. And, presumably to get attention. He must be terribly insecure and terribly unhappy.

And, thousands of celebrities and politicians expressed their outrage. Do you think they will be issuing apologies?

Celebrities and politicians should apologize for Jussie being a liar??????? “It turns out Jussie lied. I’m so sorry I believed him.”

Are you really this obtuse? They (and all of you knee-jerk reactionaries here on DCUM) should apologize for the gross smearing of Trump voters in your rush to blame them for this FAKE crime.

I think those who used this fake attack as an opportunity to slam Trump or his supporters should absolutely apologize. But, they won't.

So Trump should get an apology out of this? LOL! LOL! LOL! ? ? ?. Just stop.

Ok, obtuse is too kind a word for you. You're just plain stupid. The apologies should go to everyone who VOTED FOR Trump, and was defamed by Smollett's claim that his fictional "attackers" shouted "MAGA". Get it???? JFC.

He should be charged with something. There’s something seriously wrong mentally with a person who does this.

I agree that it seems quite possible that there's something seriously wrong mentally with him. I don't see why you think that means he should be charged. He should get help, some way or another.

Being an a$$hole doesn't necessarily mean there's anything "mentally wrong" with you.

2. I don’t want to hear anyone put this on the black race. When biracial people are like Meghan Markle and Obama, white people are apoplectic over them being called black. “But they’re half white!” So, please line up to claim this biracial man too, OK?

3. None of this changes the fact that Trump and his supporters stand for racism, homophobia, and stupidity.

My God, the stupidity. Who cares what race he is?? Only liberals care. He is a person who did something disgusting. So you can sit there on your soapbox and preach about "racism and homophobia," but perhaps you need to own the stupidity part yourself.

Who is blaming the black race for this?

Don’t get stupid with me. And I’m sure you know how to Google if you’re sincerely confused.

Oh okay, so no one. Got it.

Amazing how many people were desperate to be fooled.

Yep. Amazing and pathetic, especially those who were hoping against hope that his story was true so they could keep up the "evil MAGA" angle.

I don't think he was necessarily mentally ill. Likely not all that smart and with an ego that felt he needed more attention / status then he was getting. Maybe worried show would be cancelled or character written out. Hatched a plan with a couple friends - they get money out of it, he gets 15 minutes of fame that gets his name known. He doesn't think it through, isn't that bright. Then it snowballs out of control. he thinks he can salvage it so he hangs on.

He did accomplish getting his name name. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Many in Hollywood have sad that bad press is better than no press.

He is still denying it...Statement this evening through his lawyer

Yet in a late night statement from his attorneys on Saturday, Smollett hit back at the suggestion that the incident was a hoax, and expressed incredulity that the brothers could have been involved.

“As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with," began a statement from Smollett attorneys Todd Pugh and Victor Henderson. "He has now been further victimized by claims attributed to these alleged perpetrators that Jussie played a role in his own attack. Nothing is further from the truth and anyone claiming otherwise is lying."

“One of these purported suspects was Jussie’s personal trainer who he hired to ready him physically for a music video," the statement continued. "It is impossible to believe that this person could have played a role in the crime against Jussie or would falsely claim Jussie’s complicity.

I think that anyone who uses up police resources on fake things such as this should get charged.

Actually the Jackie hoax was really not plausible. I was the second poster on DCUM to express doubt over her story and the other poster and I were relentlessly attacked for it.

curious.

90% it's pure BS

(Meaning the political/maga stuff. Probably it was some sex/drugs gone bad)

this is PP. When I first heard the story I was shocked, and felt awful for him. Then I started reading the details and found so many things that just didn't add up - putting me in 70/30 category I guess.

I do believe that it's possible an "attack" of some sort happened, but that it had something to do with a bad Tinder situation.

Wonder if he'll eventually admit the real details.

He's black and openly gay and anti-maga so he won't, he's above all that "real details" stuff.

If he's lying, the current atmosphere in the States is too volatile for the truth to come out. It will be absorbed by the PD unless some newshound has the desire to keep hunting.

Yeah, but most newshounds are Democrat so they will not hunt this any more.

Since it does not fit their chosen narrative, the media will bury this story until it fades away.

Sadly, I have to agree with you. I wish the whole story would come out, however . . .

Let's be optimistic for a change.

Someone, somewhen, somehow, WILL get to the bottom of this.

And then we'll read it and share like crazy.

Deal?

I hate Star Trek, by the way.

That narrative, however, is now under serious scrutiny by investigators, who reportedly have evidence that Smollett directed his 'attackers' to buy the rope used in the 'assault' at a local hardware store.

Documents prove two Nigerian brothers who work as extras on the highly rated Fox drama bought the rope which was found around Smollett’s neck at Crafty Beaver Hardware Store in Chicago.

The brothers made the purchase on the weekend of January 25.

They also bought two red plain hats that they wore during the alleged attack, according to sources close to the investigation.

Police believe that the red hats were purchased at a local beauty supply store in the Uptown section of Chicago.

'We can confirm that the information received from the individuals questioned by police earlier in the Empire case has in fact shifted the trajectory of the investigation,' Chicago Police spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said.

'We’ve reached out to the Empire cast member’s attorney to request a follow-up interview.'

Chicago police are now ‘eager to speak to Jussie Smollett’ in light of the new information that was uncovered, according to ABC News.

‘We have been in touch with Smollett's attorneys,’ a Chicago Police Department spokesperson said.
