Oh things are melting at your house while its 25 degrees out?.

Pavement temperatures down county are above freezing. Our cul de sac in Silver Spring is completely clear right now and we've had no plows here.

You can see on the traffic cams that some areas are clear and some are iced over.

Yes. Ice in our DTSS neighborhood.

Early release today for sure

My husband drove our high schooler to BCC this morning, and despite years of driving on snow and ice, slipped a little in the downhill to the parking garage. He said that street had not been brined.

I come from northern Europe, I've driven in far worse. But the expectation around here is that if you open schools, you'd better damn well make sure that the streets are safe around them!

The preparation for a Code Green today was lacking. In previous years, if MCPS and the county could not prepare in time, it meant a closure. I, OTOH, would prefer they prepare better.

As for the childcare closure on Tuesday, that was just bonkers.

School will be extended until July if the expectation this winter is that streets are completely clear before school opens. Of course, half of the kids won't show up.

They are adding worse to bad by not calling early dismissal.

if it won't stop until after 11, wouldn't it make more sense to allow more time for roads to clear? why would you want kids on the road at 1?

Because the people on here saying their snow has melted will be icing over the later in the day it gets and commuters will be leaving early and adding to the dangerous situation. Kids who take city busses to get home will be doi g so in the dark

I’m in Silver Spring by Forest Glen metro. Temp is 28 degrees right now and roads are slick. Watching cars fishtail up our road.

Yeah, that's the air. I'm talking about the ground.

Perhaps because your street was salted early on? My street in Bethesda is full of snow and the salt truck just came right now, a little before 10am.

The should outsource the superintendent job to AI
.AI wouldn't make a stupid call because theyre embarrassed about their other stupid call earlier in the week.

No, we live on a private street that doesn't get county snow service. Sidewalks are clear too. Steps have snow on them.

Thats the boards fault for adding one single snow day, not my children's.

Do we need a board? They can be ai too.

Maybe it's all part of an evil plan to close child care permanently "for safety"

I was just out in silver spring. Yes, there is some slippery spots but if you drive slowly, you’ll be fine. Plenty of busses out there doing a good job being careful. And like so many of you have already said before, any decision will be the wrong decision.

And yet, "safe streets around schools buildings" was the delay/closure policy in previous years, and MCPS has only ever added a couple of days to the calendar. You can't lie to me, PP, my family has spent more than a decade in the MCPS system.

I'm confused. Don't the same people who complained about Tuesday also have to work today? Why did you need childcare Tuesday but not today?

I attended MCPS over 2 decades ago. They used to have more days built into the calendar for this purpose. Now, they only have one, and Taylor will most certainly use today to shut down everything for days after the last drop of snow, like he did last year.
