They are adding worse to bad by not calling early dismissal.

if it won't stop until after 11, wouldn't it make more sense to allow more time for roads to clear? why would you want kids on the road at 1?

I seriously don’t see how early dismissal will help. Quite the opposite.

.AI wouldn't make a stupid call because theyre embarrassed about their other stupid call earlier in the week.

Why? You don't think that Taylor's approach of just shaking a Magic 8 ball is working?

I certainly hope they are calling for an early release. It's still snowing and Friday rush hour traffic, plus school busses is a recipe for disaster.

Has it occured to you it's not the same people complaining? Are "MCPS parents" just one homogenous entity to you?

It's probably different people. I had to work on Tuesday and I had to work today (especially because I had to take much of Tuesday off). I'm happy with the decision today.

+1. It'll be better later in the day. They are in for the day - deal with it!

+1.
Tuesday was beyond ridiculous. Today was the right call.

Welp you cant fix stupid.
I personally look forward to stuck buses in the dark tonight and hope they keep the kids in school but thats only because I look forward to more parents waking up to the mismanagement and stupidity of mcps.

My husband drove our high schooler to BCC this morning, and despite years of driving on snow and ice, slipped a little in the downhill to the parking garage. He said that street had not been brined.

I come from northern Europe, I've driven in far worse. But the expectation around here is that if you open schools, you'd better damn well make sure that the streets are safe around them!

The preparation for a Code Green today was lacking. In previous years, if MCPS and the county could not prepare in time, it meant a closure. I, OTOH, would prefer they prepare better.

As for the childcare closure on Tuesday, that was just bonkers.

Thank you. The real problem near me today was no salt on the roads. There was on Tuesday! I don’t envy MCPS having to make these calls in advance, but I think they messed up twice this week. I don’t blame them for not having a crystal ball, but there was no need to close childcare on Tuesday.

If they don’t call early dismissal, do you think they will cancel after school activities?

People have legitimate complains for both days:

1. MCPS should have kept childcare open on Tuesday.

2. MCPS should either have delayed opening today, or organized better brining around the schools for this morning's on time opening. The cars slipping around my kids' high school was quite something this morning, in the dark. A delay this morning would have meant more snow to contend with, but also more time for trucks to salt, and at the very least, it means maneuvering in daylight! Which for high schoolers driving themselves to school is NOT NEGLIGIBLE.

Meanwhile, our elementary school had to notify parents that one of the school buses was stuck in the snow on the side of the road and awaiting another bus that was sent to complete the route.

Plenty of people on here complaining they should have opened childcare on Tuesday while also raging about dangerous roads this morning.
