Please be aware that bus 2313 is currently stuck at the intersection of Quince Orchard Blvd and Purchase Street. Ms. Alvarez is currently on her way to support and the Transportation Depot is aware of the situation. Parents are encouraged to pick their children up if possible, otherwise students will remain on the bus until it's safe to proceed.

Parents who complained the other day screw you.

Go f$ck yourself. I will absolutely complain next time Taylor refuses to open child care in time for teachers to get to work. I get that Taylor believes kids should be home with their mommies unless they are in school, but he needs to keep that to himself and treat his own employees and other working parents with respect.

SAHM here and I agree. Absurd that child care couldn’t be open on Tuesday morning. Also absurd that school opened on time today. Overcorrection still bad.

That is a lie. I am there and there is maybe 1/4 inch at 8.40.

Are you Taylor's mom? I just typed bethesda into weather dot gov snow total map and it says .7 inches in bethesda.

Maybe on the grass. Roads and sidewalks are clear

+1. Just walked my ES kid in Bethesda 10 minutes to school. Maybe a half inch on the grass, nothing on the roads. Traffic fine-seemed like fewer cars on the road but driving more slowly.

MS kid arrived on time to school by bus. I’m happy MCPS opened today.

Absolutely not clear. I’m in Rockville. All of the neighborhood roads have some kind of snow cover somewhere on them. It is especially bad at some of the intersections at small neighborhood roads like where they go into the schools. In addition, many of the highways ramps have full coverage of snow. That’s starting to go away now that the cars are actually traveling on it.

Just drove from Shady Grove Road to Grovsner Metro. It is bad on the roads.

Because you idiots complained the other day someone will get hurt.

If you don't want to take care of your own kids stop having them.

Because you idiots can't drive, we'll get another closure due to little snow. Learn to take your time and leave plenty of space in front of you. It's really not that hard to drive in this. I want my children educated, and since this school system refuses to build in an adequate number of snow days, they need to reserve the one day for an actual impactful snowfall. And before you say a 2 hr delay doesn't burn a snow day, it's still snowing as kids would be arriving to school with a 2 hr delay. We all know you paranoids would now be calling for a full closure for something that can be dealt with with a little bit of cautious and defensive driving.

+1
Honestly I did not skid once in my tiny subcompact car with fwd and no snow tires. I just drove slowly.

I am from the northeast and I skidded outside my child’s school. The road was untreated. This was a bad call.

Agreed. My kid's ES has a slight downhill slope entering the school area. I couldn't avoid skidding even though I drove slowly.

Things are melting at my house now… so I’m sure they will do early release because of course.

Me neither, but I don’t DRIVE A SCHOOL BUS. You personally being the best driver in the world (here is your gold star) has nothing to do with MCPS’s decision making that has to account for all the kids in their care.

I don't think I am an especially good driver. I grew up in Maryland so it is physically impossible for me to be a good driver. I just drove slowly, that takes no skill, just good judgment.

I completely agree that driving a school bus is different than driving a small car but MCPS makes decisions (e.g. closing child care and admin offices) as though they are the same so I am very in favor of today's decision. I also don't think a delay would have been safer, I think it would have been more dangerous.

Still snowing here in Bethesda.

This is what I saw while taking my child to school in DC this morning. A lot of happy kids walking to school and playing in the snow. It’s fine. When did we become such snowflakes? I went to school in MCPS in the 70’s and 80’s and we would only delay/close if there was severe ice or at least knee deep snow.

I love all the maryland drivers on this thread talking about how to drive in snow. If y'all actually could, we wouldn't be hearing about multiple PICs today.

Also? Snow, yes. Ice? NO. The roads were cold enough this morning that there was ice. You can't safely drive on ice, lil buddy. Learn something today.

Theres .75 inches of snow in bethesda and still coming. You understand that when it snows in one place it doesnt snow in every place? You can figure out cities are warmer than suburbs and rural areas?

Still snowing here in Bethesda.

Same here a teensy bit, but my long driveway is almost clear through no work on my part.

Pavement temperatures down county are above freezing. Our cul de sac in Silver Spring is completely clear right now and we've had no plows here.

Snow won't stop until after 11.
They are adding worse to bad by not calling early dismissal.

You can see on the traffic cams that some areas are clear and some are iced over.

if it won't stop until after 11, wouldn't it make more sense to allow more time for roads to clear? why would you want kids on the road at 1?

My husband drove our high schooler to BCC this morning, and despite years of driving on snow and ice, slipped a little in the downhill to the parking garage. He said that street had not been brined.

I come from northern Europe, I've driven in far worse. But the expectation around here is that if you open schools, you'd better damn well make sure that the streets are safe around them!

The preparation for a Code Green today was lacking. In previous years, if MCPS and the county could not prepare in time, it meant a closure. I, OTOH, would prefer they prepare better.

As for the childcare closure on Tuesday, that was just bonkers.
