Wrong. It's well known that there was a deal in place and that Musk killed it. Keep dreaming, it ain't happening.

Well, Dems have the WH and the Senate so they are in control and they have the power until January 20 so Dems own this one thanks to Biden.

I realize you’re trolling but at least try to be accurate. The new Congress convenes January 3. Johnson will have even fewer Republican votes to lose.

PP isn’t trolling but pointing out who is in office TODAY when this is all happening. Hint: it’s not the new congress and Trump.

Yes. It’s Johnson who is speaker of the House, which is where appropriations bills originate. Seems he didn’t get around to it.

A bill was just put forward that Dems shot down. Guess they want a shutdown.

But again, this is Biden’s term and a shutdown is occurring on his watch. He should get busy.

The Democrats were not included in drafting the new bill. Why do you expect a bipartisan or nonpartisan vote for a partisan bill? They have a negotiated bipartisan bill and refuse to put it to a vote. The do-nothing Republican majority is so dysfunctional that they only allow the House to vote on bills that they know will fail.

100%. This is owned by the GOP.

How will the optics appear if we have an extended shutdown under Biden that abruptly ends after an elaborate Trump inauguration? This is what the democrats are doing to themselves.

There won’t be an elaborate inauguration if government’s shut down since planning would be a non-excepted activity.

And that is why I think the republicans will fold on this, they can’t let Trump down on the big party.

Sorry, this is what America voted for utter chaos and gross incompetence.

Do you support the 1500 page bill and all that ridiculous spending? Really?

We voted for an end to all this bloated spending.

Like childhood cancer. Yeah, we know.

But you want to give more tax cuts to Elon Musk.

The GOP will lose a few House seats on January 3...if they can't get something passed now it won't get any easier next year.

You are delusional. Democrats have always been labeled by the GOP as the party of big government. The Dems want, like, and respect the government. Everybody knows this and that’s why they would never shut it down. It will be known as the first Musk shutdown.

I am a federal worker and I blame Biden or lack of leadership and Democrat House members for voting no on the latest CR and, most of my colleagues agree. It's not the time to play politics but fund tge government operations with a clean as possible CR.

Ha ha. Get ready for a shutdown!

That “ridiculous” spending is how politicians negotiate bills and get projects for their States as something positive to show they’ve accomplished in the next election. Or do you just want your representatives to shoot at targets and scapegoat people as their “wins”?!

I’m not sure the Capitol can be rented for private events.

Because it’s the debt ceiling timing allowing for all this pork to be swept in in the first place. Whether left or right, we see this dynamic of waiting until the 11th hour to force in ridiculous spending like $850k to a single Massachusetts elderly home, with one party holding it up via the debt ceiling. Can’t blame Dems or Rep solely, both sides do it. Let’s put an end to it.

For some things, absolutely.

Private funding doesn’t get the seats constructed at the WH or the security in place.

They’ll keep the government open to make sure John Robert’s driver is paid to get him to the event. It’s immature and monomaniacal but it’s going to keep the lights on.

Polling consistently shows that blame for shutdowns accrue to the party in power. Highly partisan people like yourself will blame the party they oppose each time. But the American public consistently blames the party in power.

Despite all the wild debates, the GOP gains the most by keeping the government open so that they can hit the ground running and not be slowed down by shutdown cleanup. For the Democrats, it's probably a wash. They will be blamed for the closure but will gain from slowing down the Trump agenda.
