Wow. Not only preachy, but certain you're right. That's a killer combination. Yes, we know she was cast because she not only is a great actress, but also because she's supposed to portray an obese woman. Yes, we know it's supposed to "catch our attention." You don't have to explain the obvious to us. What we're saying is that her size actually detracts from the character at times, because we're so caught up in the size factor that sometimes it supersedes anything else going on. For example, in the therapy scene, the focus was supposed to be on Kevin and his issues, but all I could think about was how uncomfortable Metz looked sitting there. Same when the three of them were sitting on the bench, as another PP noted. This happens all the time when she's in a scene - the sheer fact of her weight "outweighs" (no pun intended) what's actually supposed to be going on. You can really drop the defensive act. No one is attacking her. ![]() |

I thought this epsisode was well done and liked the final scene of the three of them on the bench. But just based on Chrissy's shape, I can't believe she isnt wearing some padding. Also, that bench would not have been able to hold them. I think she is a great actress. But honestly, I don;t think someone that size could be intimate with their partner. Also, why wouldn't she want the gastric surgery? |
also, why isn't anyone concerned that Chrissy metz is likely to die young? that weight is a life or death situation. Its not enough to be aware and pat yourself on the back as a viewer. This is really really serious. |
That is part of what makes it so distracting. It’s so sad and I was really hoping she could start losing some of it. Obviously there are serious issues to get to that point though so not easy. I find that I think about it during the day sometimes when I eat junk. |
More agreement here. I think he's phenomenal, especially this season. Were the Golden Globes for last season? If so, I really hope he gets nominated for the performances he has been turning in this season, especially the episode that focused on him in Nov/Dec. |
She was going to get the gastric surgery but wasn't answering questions well in the pre-op interview. Her boyfriend had a near-death medical scare, and I think that scared her from surgery. After deciding not to do the surgery was when she went to the 'fat ranch', and she's not doing surgery now because she's trying to get pregnant again. I remember hearing an interview with her at the beginning of the show where I thought she said she was going to lose weight alongside her character. But I don't see that happening. Doesn't take a lot of calories to maintain that weight? It's like she must be trying to keep the weight on. |
There were articles that said that there was an agreement that she would lose weight for the character, but they said there was no goal weight in mind, and nothing ultimately required, it seems like it was more of a discussion with the directors. They are various links but none of them were super informative so I'm not going to search now |
ok so after last night, showing smoke detector with no battery, it's pretty clear that a house fire is what killed jack. Not sure why they keep dragging this out and dropping lame "hints." |
This. They tied this into the episode Jack was sleeping on Miguel's couch. We saw the same apt with the crying kids in it. Miguel had to tell them, Kate wanted to find Kevin who was making out with Sophie and his leg in a cast. So maybe they weren't all home, but I bet Jack dies trying to save the dog. Even if Kate didn't "make" him do it. |
Last night's episode was terrible! |
Really? I liked it. There were a lot of funny moments, which I appreciated, and I like the Kate/Madison storyline. Plus, any episode without Toby is a good episode. |
I didn't love last nights episode. I feel like most episodes feel long in that there's a lot of character development and I feel like a lot happens, but this one was definitely slower and felt a bit disjointed to me for some reason. |
I didn't love it either. It felt slow and not much happened. I know that each episode can't be a huge blockbuster but it just wasn't all that exciting. Frankly, I'm getting a little annoyed with Randall and all his "big ideas" - fostering a kid, now renovating the house? Dude, you're having a mid life crisis, go see someone. |
Is he renovating their house? I thought it was over the top that he wants to buy that building so people can live for free. I'm not clear on how they have so much money if he isn't working. What is Beth's job? It sounds non profit. Beth had a strong personality. When is she going to say no to his ideas? |
