Uhh, that's pretty embarrassing. They didn't recognize any landmarks? I think that was a parody.

What? I don't understand.

I don't understand how anyone neurotypical could get lost simply due to not seeing the sidewalk. Are they trained to follow a painted line?

Don’t use clinical language in colloquial conversations. Just say “normal.”

Pray tell, what is the definition of “normal?” And can you point us to the rule that polices our language such that we can’t use words that may occur in a clinical setting?

DP

I have a child with ASD and find the growing use of "neurotypical" in these contexts pretty gross. You wouldn't say "normal" because you know it is offensive so you substitute another word that means the same things to you. Not any better.

No one cares. Get over it.

They have to call an early release by 10:30. My kid was texting me saying teachers are predicting and early release, they want kids getting back before more ice accumulation.

Anyone think we are getting an early release?

You don't care, and that's fine. I do care and you are suggesting I am "nobody". Wtaf is wrong with you?

Wouldn't that interfere with the football state game?

That is a lie. I am there and there is maybe 1/4 inch at 8.40.

Are you Taylor's mom? I just typed bethesda into weather dot gov snow total map and it says .7 inches in bethesda.

Maybe on the grass. Roads and sidewalks are clear

+1. Just walked my ES kid in Bethesda 10 minutes to school. Maybe a half inch on the grass, nothing on the roads. Traffic fine-seemed like fewer cars on the road but driving more slowly.

MS kid arrived on time to school by bus. I’m happy MCPS opened today.

Absolutely not clear. I’m in Rockville. All of the neighborhood roads have some kind of snow cover somewhere on them. It is especially bad at some of the intersections at small neighborhood roads like where they go into the schools. In addition, many of the highways ramps have full coverage of snow. That’s starting to go away now that the cars are actually traveling on it.

Just drove from Shady Grove Road to Grovsner Metro. It is bad on the roads.

Because you idiots complained the other day someone will get hurt.

If you don't want to take care of your own kids stop having them.

Because you idiots can't drive, we'll get another closure due to little snow. Learn to take your time and leave plenty of space in front of you. It's really not that hard to drive in this. I want my children educated, and since this school system refuses to build in an adequate number of snow days, they need to reserve the one day for an actual impactful snowfall. And before you say a 2 hr delay doesn't burn a snow day, it's still snowing as kids would be arriving to school with a 2 hr delay. We all know you paranoids would now be calling for a full closure for something that can be dealt with with a little bit of cautious and defensive driving.

Hardly anyone here is arguing for a closure and a delay would have allowed more time for the buses to go from point A to point B instead of doing it two hours earlier during rush hour when the accumulation was honestly not much less. Your point is a stupid one and seems to be only for the purpose of complaining about Maryland drivers’ inability to handle winter weather which isn’t exactly news.

Honestly I did not skid once in my tiny subcompact car with fwd and no snow tires. I just drove slowly.

Me neither, but I don’t DRIVE A SCHOOL BUS. You personally being the best driver in the world (here is your gold star) has nothing to do with MCPS’s decision making that has to account for all the kids in their care.

I'm the pp that wrote it and I have two kids with ASD as well. One with high support needs. Thinking of him is why I wrote it. It wouldn't happen anymore, but when he was a bit younger he might have struggled if he couldn't see the sidewalk. It would have been more an issue with coping, probably, rather than actually getting lost.

I am from the northeast and I skidded outside my child’s school. The road was untreated. This was a bad call.

WTF? No. Going all the way to the opposite side of stupid isn't the right call either.

Delay for rain and open on time for falling snow? Already an inch here

Wow, an entire inch.

Not all of us live on flat, plowed roads!! An inch of slippery snow could mean lots of accidents. Some of us live in rural areas, and are commuting from far away. I am keeping my kid home as I work from home and it is possible.

The rural areas aren't going to get an inch of snow.

The side roads that weren't treated have relatively little traffic. People won't get into accidents. Especially not anyone with common sense.

Are you serious? People can't even drive in the rain. We're upcounty where there is an inch of snow on the ground and it is currently snowing. My kids bus was 15 minutes late today. A 2 hour delay would have been the right call for today, maybe even no school today. Ridiculous.

D for trolling. This is a southern storm; upcountry is getting less than downcounty.

Seriously. Where exactly are the links to reports and pics of the heavy storm everyone is screaming about? I’ve looked at local news and weather, and it’s is minimal snow basically everywhere. Inconvenience /=/ emergency.
