It is LITERALLY a opinion article, sweetie. I wish the post would stop giving Rory Cooper such a loud voice though, he's so annoying |
He may be annoying, but he’s not wrong. Tholen needs to go. |
|
Will the signed petitions be posted online? Would love to see who signed and how many came from Great Falls, McLean, Herndon, and Falls Church.
I'd bet a large number of the signatures came from the Langley area - the very people she's tried to suck up to the most. |
But he IS wrong. Which we will see when this gets thrown out in court. We live in VA, not CA. The standard to force a recall in VA is incredibly high. Tholen may have made questionable decisions, but she didn’t do anything overtly criminal. Sure, you can argue until you are blue in the face that she should have voted to open schools, but given that other board members agreed with her and you know..ongoing pandemic, murkey advice from public health officials, the case is mighty thin. |
The advice from our local health department and the AAP (and it's state chapter here in Virginia) was not murky. It was open. |
Anyone who actually watched the work session they had with the health department the day before they yanked the rug out from under us knows that the Health Dept told them it was safe to open but that they might need to close late fall. |
It may get thrown out in court; much depends on the judge to whom the case is assigned. However, the standard for removal under Virginia law is much lower than that needed for a criminal conviction - a public official may be recalled for, among other things, "neglect of duty" and "incompetence." Regardless of what happens to the recall, having over 5000 of your constituents sign a petition, in person and under penalty of perjury, attesting to the fact they think you're unfit for office is quite a rebuke. |
"The Fairfax County Parents Association members involved in the recall effort, who have dubbed themselves the Replace FCSP School Board on social media..." I see the copy-editing is up to the usual Wsahington Psot standards. Personally, I suspect billionaire lobbying operations disguised as local newspapers would be more effective with a better quality control, but I guess it ain't my $$$ on the line. |
Okay Rory. |
+1 like it or not, the petitions send a message. |
Not Rory, but it would be great if he replaced her. |

According to the Post article, Tholen said she has “always worked for my students’ well-being.”
She should have added "Langley" before "students." It still wouldn't be accurate, but it would be closer to reality. |
Given that Tholen has zero liability, the answer is easy - just say they were wrong. |
It's in All Opinions are Local. You too could write a local opinion piece and the Post would probably publish it. |
Depends on what you mean by "liability." It's not like she's going to be ordered to pay damages. On the other hand, a circuit court judge could find she didn't exercise due care. |
