Holy crap - they got over 5000 signatures to recall Tholen, and the petition has now been filed in court. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/07/19/fairfax-county-parents-are-taking-back-power/ Regardless of what happens to this particular initiative, Tholen should do the right thing and step down. Whether it's shuttered schools, anti-Asian changes to TJ admissions, biased adjustments to school boundaries, or poor oversight of FCPS spending, she has repeatedly failed Dranesville.
I wish the Post had written something that wasn’t so biased.
It is LITERALLY a opinion article, sweetie. I wish the post would stop giving Rory Cooper such a loud voice though, he's so annoying
He may be annoying, but he’s not wrong. Tholen needs to go.
But he IS wrong. Which we will see when this gets thrown out in court. We live in VA, not CA. The standard to force a recall in VA is incredibly high. Tholen may have made questionable decisions, but she didn’t do anything overtly criminal. Sure, you can argue until you are blue in the face that she should have voted to open schools, but given that other board members agreed with her and you know..ongoing pandemic, murkey advice from public health officials, the case is mighty thin.
The advice from our local health department and the AAP (and it's state chapter here in Virginia) was not murky. It was open.
Anyone who actually watched the work session they had with the health department the day before they yanked the rug out from under us knows that the Health Dept told them it was safe to open but that they might need to close late fall.
