Yet another GOP shutdown?

I see a lot of this sentiment on Twitter. Right about what?

1500 pages of pork is unacceptable, and included nonsense like paying Egyptian college students $15m, a restriction on forcing a response to house subpoenas, a pay raise for congress, exempted them from Obamacare, $850k funding for a single Pryde senior housing complex in Boston, 100 percent funding for rebuilding the Key bridge that is privately owned and insured, reauthorization of a state department agency that republicans have accused of stifling free speech especially Covid information etc. And frankly a lot of Republican supported payments to farmers that should be a standalone proposal. This nonsense of stuffing all this pork into a CR before the holidays needs to stop.

Again, the Republican House majority had years to come up with separate spending bills that would pass and did not.

Also, the bill that just failed was probably more expensive than the one Elon didn’t like.

Agree that separate spending bills should be utilized. The message from the last election is that this type of behavior, left AND right, needs to stop. Stop loading all the junk into a massive bill no one reads and create this emergency spending rationale.

At some point there needs to be a pivot, no? Otherwise this will go on and on.

Wrong. It's well known that there was a deal in place and that Musk killed it. Keep dreaming, it ain't happening.

Well, Dems have the WH and the Senate so they are in control and they have the power until January 20 so Dems own this one thanks to Biden.

Johnson should have passed a budget.

But he wasn’t capable of doing so.

One person doesn’t pass a budget. Why didn’t the Dems vote to avoid this shutdown? Where is Biden? Presidents historically are in town rallying votes during this process as head of his party.

The Republicans broke this, so they own it. There was a deal and Prez Elon blew it up. Oh well. That’s what they do.

I realize you’re trolling but at least try to be accurate. The new Congress convenes January 3. Johnson will have even fewer Republican votes to lose.

PP isn’t trolling but pointing out who is in office TODAY when this is all happening. Hint: it’s not the new congress and Trump.

Yes. It’s Johnson who is speaker of the House, which is where appropriations bills originate. Seems he didn’t get around to it.

A bill was just put forward that Dems shot down. Guess they want a shutdown.

But again, this is Biden’s term and a shutdown is occurring on his watch. He should get busy.

You seem to think that republicans don’t want to break this process of stuffing pork into 1500 pages of a bill. We do.

If democrats don’t want a shutdown they could have voted to stop it.

The Key Bridge is not privately owned. Stop listening to the liars who are telling you this.

God you’re obtuse. I guess you’re too young to remember Gingrich’s shutdown while Clinton/Gore ram the White House.

38 republicans voted against it. It's a Musk shutdown.

No. The GOP has a majority in the House. The House did not pass the bill.

And where is Biden? Why has he essentially stepped down from office when he is still president, and why is he not out there advocating for the budget items he wants? He is the chief executive for goodness sake.

What is it you think he should be doing? His party negotiated a bill that he is reportedly satisfied with. He’s supposed to convince Republicans to vote for it? Why? Most of them were happy to do so before Elon Musk told them not to.

Seriously? He should be rallying the votes to pass a spending bill. One that can actually pass. Is he or is he not the president? Where is he? If you are foolish enough to think this is about Elon and not the constituents calling their congressmen once they found out about pork, then I guess just sit back and enjoy the political wilderness. Elon doesn’t have a vote, this is about congress. Biden has a role to play.

Biden is not a party to these CR negotiations. It is between Johnson, Jeffries, and Musk. The GOP is literally battling itself, not the president or any other Democrat.

There are plenty of votes to pass the bill that was negotiated. The problem is that Johnson won’t allow a vote because Elon told him not to.

Remind me, who has the majority in the house?

The Democrats did vote to avoid a shutdown. An unelected president Musk threatened the republicans with primary challenges and the republicans flip flopped their vote. The democrats said “hell no@, unlike the republicans, their not kissing musk’s arse.

The Democrats were not included in drafting the new bill. Why do you expect a bipartisan or nonpartisan vote for a partisan bill? They have a negotiated bipartisan bill and refuse to put it to a vote. The do-nothing Republican majority is so dysfunctional that they only allow the House to vote on bills that they know will fail.

100%. This is owned by the GOP.
