Move on. No one is going to close schools again. Of course, there will be individual problems now that covid rates are going up and some people refuse to mask.

The cancer that kept them closed still remains, despite scientific evidence and data, recommendations from pediatrics, and demands parents.

Shall I post the Fairfax union's own statements to keep schools closed come hell or high water? of course they were still interacting and getting infected like everyone else, shaming their neighbors for doing the same thing. Just look at the outbreaks during summer and the holidays. Here I thought that was dangerous. People just didn't want to do their jobs.

It’s time to get out of your time machine. It’s 2022 and schools were open for the entire year, except for some snow days in January. A few students had virtual school all year, and that won’t happen again in the coming year. Every single teacher will be in person as will every single student. Whatever the hell are you talking about?

DP, but why should we pretend to have collective amnesia about how poorly FCPS treated families or how many promises the members of the current School Board have broken? We’ll just get more of the same if these fraudsters are re-elected.

DP
I need to see who the alternatives are.

+1 Ilryong Moon or a Democrat like him? Sure. All for it. More like Megan McLaughlin? Good. An alternative like Elizabeth Schultz or another Youngkin style accolyte? No way. We need experienced people focused on education who understand FCPS.

All this talk about “understanding FCPS.” Honestly, anyone worth a grain of salt who truly understands FCPS (e.g., its loud and entitled parents, it’s overworked and underpaid teachers, its whacko School Board) is going to run for the hills of the Superintendent’s position opens up again.

Not surprising at all that the sole remaining candidate for the job came from 3,000 miles away.

She does not know the county, nor does she understand the instructional and facilities challenges that were neglected for many years under Brabrand while he frittered away time and resources on TJ, do-nothing “Chief Equity Officers,” SR&R, etc.

Dream on. How would that look? Think about it. FCPS would be a laughingstock.

It would look principled to buy out her contract and replace her with, I dunno, someone who actually knows something about FCPS.

Reid does a passing job of espousing all the latest educational buzzwords as if they actually mean something, but by all accounts it’s going to get old very fast and then it will be obvious that she’s just as much of an empty suit as Brabrand.

FCPS is a very large organization that should be headed by someone with proven management experience, but the School Board members embraced Reid because they all think she’s a kindred spirit. She’ll almost surely just end up magnifying their own glaring deficiencies as planners and leaders.

In 2024-2025, she’s going to know a whole lot more about FCPS.

Yes and she might run out of here like her hair is on fire....FCPS is no prize.

FCPS used to be a prize and it still has schools that would be considered crown jewels in any public school system. And it has had multiple strong, sensible Superintendents in the past.

However, it's been run into the ground by an elected School Board composed of total flakes, and the current School Board is the worst ever. Getting rid of most, if not all, of them next year is key. Without that, the descent into utter mediocrity, as in some other local jurisdictions, will just continue.

The "crown jewels" that you speak of are perceived as such but have absolutely zero thanks to FCPS. Take Langley pyramid parents and drop them in the middle of a rural Florida school system and then that district would be the best in America. However, what FCPS does actually do well is provide advanced academics far and wide throughout the county so that even underserved kids have access to college prep courses. These are things the rural-America schools often do not provide.

What you claim is good about FCPS long predates the current School Board. They’d kill advanced academics in a heartbeat if they could get away with it.

That guy for the TJ Alumni Action Group is so repugnant. Imagine thinking it's OK to tell Asian kids that they no longer deserve to be admitted to TJ or any other school on the merits because they are "over-represented" as a group. What happened to respecting the rights of individuals, rather than making every decision based on class and race?

As for Scott Surovell, what a putz. He and Karen Corbett Sanders are both unprincipled, pork-barrel politicians. All that matters to them is being able to brag that more kids from their districts got into TJ, regardless of whether they were the most qualified. And the cowards like Stella Pekarsky, Elaine Tholen, and Melanie Meren just stand by idly and let themselves get steamrolled.

It's beyond time that we recognize these people for who they are, and what they've done to FCPS, and kick them out of office!

The FCPS School Board activists are a threat to our kids every single day by pushing forward their agenda of gender ideology, sexualization, and political activism in spite of the objection from the majority of parents, students, and some school staff.

Stacy Langton’s methods to fight this indoctrination might not be perfect, but they have been effective in that she brought to light things that were hidden; and for that, many parents are grateful and appreciate her advocacy and courage.

Not sure why your chose this specific thread to mock Mrs. Langton’s, but there is no doubt that Superintendent Reid has bigger challenges ahead of her.

I guess if this were one of the backward former slave states like Texas or Alabama that might be true, but it sounds like you're living in an alternative reality.

Alternative reality is to believe that everyone else is obsessed with sex to the extent that it becomes the only thing that defines them.

WJLA is not just a local station. It is owned by Sinclair broadcasting, a large right wing media company that aggressively pushes right wing theories.

And Dutta said she is against “indoctrination.” Nick should have asked her what she thinks of the TX and FL approached that limit and monitor teachers from state levels and seen what her approach is to that.

DP: It's not about sex, it's about whether the state respects your control over your own body.

To the contrary, WJLA should ask Dutta about what she hopes to accomplish in her position as a Virginia appointee, not her views on things outside her authority.

Part of the issue with the current School Board is FCPS is that they spend a lot of time pontificating on issues outside their scope of authority, and not as much time as needed on matters for which they are responsible.
Anonymous
The point to asking her that is to see what she thinks of those republican indoctrination plans. They are very much in line with Youngkin’s approach and she could push for them in her new position.
