FCPS NEW SUPERINTENDENT : Michelle Reid

Ok Stacy!

Dream on. How would that look? Think about it. FCPS would be a laughingstock.

It would look principled to buy out her contract and replace her with, I dunno, someone who actually knows something about FCPS.

Reid does a passing job of espousing all the latest educational buzzwords as if they actually mean something, but by all accounts it’s going to get old very fast and then it will be obvious that she’s just as much of an empty suit as Brabrand.

FCPS is a very large organization that should be headed by someone with proven management experience, but the School Board members embraced Reid because they all think she’s a kindred spirit. She’ll almost surely just end up magnifying their own glaring deficiencies as planners and leaders.

The FCPS School Board activists are a threat to our kids every single day by pushing forward their agenda of gender ideology, sexualization, and political activism in spite of the objection from the majority of parents, students, and some school staff.

Stacy Langton’s methods to fight this indoctrination might not be perfect, but they have been effective in that she brought to light things that were hidden; and for that, many parents are grateful and appreciate her advocacy and courage.

Not sure why your chose this specific thread to mock Mrs. Langton’s, but there is no doubt that Superintendent Reid has bigger challenges ahead of her.

I wholly disagree with this bs about “indoctrination.” These are talking points from your ultra right wingnut crowd. “Many parents” are grateful that their transgender kid is being acknowledged and that the board is working to put protections in place for them. This narrative that others’ rights being protected somehow takes away from your rights is downright wrong. I’m sure you also think that gay people being able to get married takes away your rights. Yeah, no.

Exactly, they're trying to stir up fear over issues that don't exist and distract from their stance on women's rights or gun control.

Are you also referring to women’s rights at sports? Right… the voices advocating for women in this travesty are not coming from people who express themselves the way you do about women. I mean, if you want to use this thread to talk about topics that concern women, I think that those of us who have girls at FCPS can agree that the most pressing issues relevant to school girls are the unfairness of them no longer be able to aspire to be the best in their category because the concept of women has been erased by the School Board, and most likely, our girls’ right to sex segregated spaces at bathrooms and lockers will no longer exit come this fall. The majority of parents, regardless of political affiliation or faith, are not happy with this violation of women’s right to privacy and their rights of equality under what used to be Title IX.

We send our daughters (and sons) to FCPS to get an education. We also have an expectation that our girls will have the same opportunities as our boys. Who they choose to marry when they are mature enough is not as pressing of an issue for our K-12. They’ll have plenty of time once they leave FCPS.

I agree entirely.

More importantly: many voting parents agree; perhaps most.

Those of you in vehement disagreement appear to be in the minority among voters
, even if your radical views are common on this Board. And your views are indeed radical, extreme, and ultimately harmful to our children.

DP
Regardless of whether we agree or not, on what are you basing these claims?

Several factors; but principally the governor’s election, the reaction to McAuliffe’s debate gaffe on education, and the 3 recalls (even though they were not ultimately successful).

McAuliffe won Fairfax County with 65% of the vote. 286,316 to 152,110 vote count. As far as the recall effort, I don't see how the number of petition signatures represent most FCPS parents.

Next SB will be sworn in in early 2024– too late to start the search process for 24-25 SY. Plus, if they fire her without making an effort to work with her, no one would take her place. Raise your hand if you are willing to work for the SB who fires without giving the super intent a chance.

And unless she is an abject failure, the tax payers aren’t going to want to shell out to buy out her contract.

So, she’s here for at least three years. And her contract is what? 4? 5?

In 2024-2025, she’s going to know a whole lot more about FCPS.

Move on. No one is going to close schools again. Of course, there will be individual problems now that covid rates are going up and some people refuse to mask.

The cancer that kept them closed still remains, despite scientific evidence and data, recommendations from pediatrics, and demands parents.

Shall I post the Fairfax union's own statements to keep schools closed come hell or high water? of course they were still interacting and getting infected like everyone else, shaming their neighbors for doing the same thing. Just look at the outbreaks during summer and the holidays. Here I thought that was dangerous. People just didn't want to do their jobs.

It’s time to get out of your time machine. It’s 2022 and schools were open for the entire year, except for some snow days in January. A few students had virtual school all year, and that won’t happen again in the coming year. Every single teacher will be in person as will every single student. Whatever the hell are you talking about?

There are such things as acting or interim Superintendents. FCPS has had them before, as have other local divisions.

In the context of a $3B annual budget buying out Reid’s contract wouldn’t be that big a deal, compared to the lift that parents would feel if there were finally a School Board and interim Superintendent paying attention to what actually matters again.

And given the lack of transparency about Reid’s hiring, no one should feel sorry for her if she’s shown the door early.

DP, but why should we pretend to have collective amnesia about how poorly FCPS treated families or how many promises the members of the current School Board have broken? We’ll just get more of the same if these fraudsters are re-elected.

+1
And I wonder which of the unions is Fairfax’s “union”? To me FEA did see more staunchly against returning, but they represent how many staff? 3-4k?

Ok. Please evidence the trend that represents most of the voters in Fairfax Co.
