I expect the next school board, once elected, will terminate Reid’s contract. Nothing against her personally, but she is simply the wrong person for the job right now. She does not know the county, nor does she understand the instructional and facilities challenges that were neglected for many years under Brabrand while he frittered away time and resources on TJ, do-nothing “Chief Equity Officers,” SR&R, etc.
Dream on. How would that look? Think about it. FCPS would be a laughingstock.
It would look principled to buy out her contract and replace her with, I dunno, someone who actually knows something about FCPS. Reid does a passing job of espousing all the latest educational buzzwords as if they actually mean something, but by all accounts it’s going to get old very fast and then it will be obvious that she’s just as much of an empty suit as Brabrand. FCPS is a very large organization that should be headed by someone with proven management experience, but the School Board members embraced Reid because they all think she’s a kindred spirit. She’ll almost surely just end up magnifying their own glaring deficiencies as planners and leaders.
In 2024-2025, she’s going to know a whole lot more about FCPS.
Yes and she might run out of here like her hair is on fire....FCPS is no prize.
FCPS used to be a prize and it still has schools that would be considered crown jewels in any public school system. And it has had multiple strong, sensible Superintendents in the past. However, it's been run into the ground by an elected School Board composed of total flakes, and the current School Board is the worst ever. Getting rid of most, if not all, of them next year is key. Without that, the descent into utter mediocrity, as in some other local jurisdictions, will just continue.
The "crown jewels" that you speak of are perceived as such but have absolutely zero thanks to FCPS. Take Langley pyramid parents and drop them in the middle of a rural Florida school system and then that district would be the best in America. However, what FCPS does actually do well is provide advanced academics far and wide throughout the county so that even underserved kids have access to college prep courses. These are things the rural-America schools often do not provide.
