I’m team husband.
The instructor rides are great and I’m dripping with sweat after. I have set 2 PRs this week. I was in the top 5 of a live ride with 4 30-year old men and I’m a 50-year old woman. You don’t get better if you don’t push and they have so many different t instructors you should be able to find at least one you like. |
"Getting better" at something you don't value is sort of a strange goal. Congratulations to you, but your goals are not everyone's goals. I am reminded of that personal trainer who used to come here and complain about Planet Fitness because regular, moderate, noncompetitive exercise wasn't going to get you ripped. |
Some people choose not to to push everything in life to the max, and that’s okay. It’s better to workout in a way you enjoy, instead of doing what someone else wants you to do and burning yourself out. Plus, newer research is showing that slow, steady state cardio is just as beneficial for health as intense exercise (if not more so). |
Not OP, but that's not a goal of mine. My goal is to get some exercise to moderately improve my health and sanity. Now, some may argue that a Peleton is too expensive for that, but I like it, we have the money, and I don't spend much on myself normally. |
Why is it wasted if you use it and enjoy it? What a weird way to think of things. |
WTF? what is wrong with you people? Marriages are not supposed to be adversarial! They are a team TOGETHER. No one GAF about your peleton performance, Susan. |
Because you could get the exact same result for far less money. |
| When my husband did this I told him point blank that his criticism was ruining my enjoyment, so please don't do that again. Some people are control freaks. |
Not all of us would take this comment as adversarial. A lot of the context would be the dynamic between the spouses in general though. |

Look, I have a Peloton. I have not been on it in months due to some medical issues. I prob could ride the scenic rides but that is not why I bought the bike. I bought it to get my butt kicked by some awesome instructors in those classes. That's the real value to Peloton and I think a lot of folks would agree.
So maybe he's not criticizing you in the way you think? Maybe he doesn't understand why you're option more from the rides you can do on any bike, to the ones that Peloton is known for? Look, I don't care what you do. You prefer the scenic rides? That's great. But, I personally wouldn't spend all this money for a Peloton just to do those. |
Chiming in and for the team husband people - stop doing this! If you have something to say, make it helpful and constructive. These discouraging comments when someone is trying are not helpful. My husband started giving me so many comments, tips, and advice about running that it took all the joy out of it for me. I would run for fun, regularly but didn't worry about pace or distance. I'd just go for it and do whatever felt good that day. and then my DH went and started running, and then he would not shut up about how I can improve my pace and distance and all the things that I was going wrong for all these years.

Great news! You didn't spend any money on OP's Peleton! Tell us what you've been spending money on and we can tell you why you shouldn't have done that. Sound fun? Or sound like none of our business? |
Honestly, this was my first thought too. I'm on your side, OP. But I also have a Peloton and know how hard I have to push myself to really burn calories/get in shape. A slow scenic ride would be a waste of my time. I'd save that for a second ride of the day or if I am recovering from an injury or childbirth or something. Try all of the instructors before you throw in the towel on "live" classes. I like Emma Lovewell and Jen Sherman. Robyn can be annoying but she is motivating, I'll give her that. Alex is sexy eye candy and I like his style. Btw, i never do live, always the pre-recorded. They have this new thing in beta that's synchronized starting groups on pre-recorded rides (forget what they're calling it). |
“You’re so sensitive!” |
And you know this how? And it's your business why? Oh dear. |
