My husband just made a snide Peloton comment

I bought it to get my butt kicked by some awesome instructors in those classes. That's the real value to Peloton and I think a lot of folks would agree.

So maybe he's not criticizing you in the way you think? Maybe he doesn't understand why you're option more from the rides you can do on any bike, to the ones that Peloton is known for? Look, I don't care what you do. You prefer the scenic rides? That's great. But, I personally wouldn't spend all this money for a Peloton just to do those.

So don't personally spend all this money.

Husband is moron. My wife puts on workout gear. Rides peloton. What do I care what she rides too.

She’s in work out gear and sweaty.

So sexy. Win win.

Sorry team husband here. You sound overly sensitive. Were you already feeling guilty that you were doing a scenic ride instead of a real calorie burning workout so his comment triggered you?

Wow, you peloton bitches are intense

Why is everyone grumbling about making the purchase "worth it"? Sounds like DH does the rides he wants and OP does what she likes. Everyone has the option to move up or down as they choose anytime during the time they own it. OP could try too much now, get frustrated and then not even use it later, or she could take the time to ease into her level now and grow to do more. Either way, both are getting their own level of value from it.

+1. Also you can “zone out” on any old stationary bike. A peloton is not required.

The instructor rides are great and I’m dripping with sweat after.
I have set 2 PRs this week.

I was in the top 5 of a live ride with 4 30-year old men and I’m a 50-year old woman.

You don’t get better if you don’t push and they have so many different t instructors you should be able to find at least one you like.

WTF? what is wrong with you people? Marriages are not supposed to be adversarial! They are a team TOGETHER. No one GAF about your peleton performance, Susan.

Not all of us would take this comment as adversarial.

A lot of the context would be the dynamic between the spouses in general though.

Teams are adversarial. Especially in the context that it's used in pop culture. No one is "team football", you have a team.

OP's husband seems to use it too so what other option do you suggest? They spend MORE money and get two, different bikes?

It was my impression that they bought they bought the bike together to get healthy. I know whenever i make a plan to get healthy with my husband and he stops taking it seriously after about two weeks i get super disappointed. I'm actually pretty healthy. He usually complains about his weight and how it is making him unhappy. We makes plans he doesn't follow through. Its a constant cycle. I worry about him and out of frustration I've probably made similar non helpful passive comments.

How OP rides a Peloton is her own business.

You can get/use the Pelaton app with a much less expensive bike. But fools and their money are soon parted.

Look, it’s nice to have something stylish to hang your wet, hand-washed lingerie on, ok?

This is what I thought. He's probably annoyed that you spent a crap-ton of money and, if you just do scenic rides, wasted it. I would be.

OP, does DH or anyone else in the house use it? Who wanted it? If he did, then he should shut his mouth. If you wanted it, I agree that it’s a waste of money to use the Peleton on scenic rides (which aren’t that good anyway). You would get a much better workout (heartrate up, calories burned, etc) doing the rides. Start with short beginner rides and work up from there.

Is there a life goal to use money as efficiently as possible?

Did someone ask you about the ways to get a better workout?

This, precisely. I had an extraordinarily negative impression of the Peleton (and the sort of nut jobs attacking OP here, who I assumed were the core audience) until one of my friends told me that one of the scenic rides passes by her childhood home. I thought that would be amazing to see, even if it was a vicarious thrill. I love this thing! I’m thankful to not have a censorious partner. Lots of posters on here would horrify the Peleton instructors.

I wouldn't put effort into horrifying anyone, but I assume I'm one of them (I am on team "let adults do what they want in peace"), and I feel fine about that

Its his way of telling you you are fat and need to work harder.
