Yes, I realize that. Thank God for all the cell phones everywhere now. OP is asking if she's the only one not deeply affected by current events. I have been DEEPLY affected by the cell phone videos of people being murdered by the police. I realize it has always happened and I'm grateful we all can see it now -- but it's vastly different to know it and to see it for yourself. That's why people are flooding the streets to protest. We can see it for ourselves. And it's sickening.

Politics: this has been a crappy year and I have already prepared myself that trump will be re-elected. I will still vote of course, but it is clear to me that this is the country we are living in - a majority of obnoxious, racists, ignorant and plain stupid people in one hand, and a bunch of woke and purists - also obnoxious, ignorant and plain stupid in the other hand that will not vote for Biden because he is not their choice. They apparantly never heard of the word compromise of the expression "the lesser of two evils."

Stuff like that drives me crazy. And those who act like that don't understand how damaging it all is for people to get burned out on the "woke stuff". I think my favorite experience (sarcastic) was when someone was telling me that a certain pattern on a sweater was cultural appropriation. That is part of my culture and I said something the lines of "well no a lot of us aren't bothered by things like that. It is really things like X and Y that are offensive" And that person that tried to argue that I was wrong and that it was offensive. I told her that she was being more offensive than the sweater but that just led her to dig deeper into her stance. It was beyond ridiculous.

What's really petty and stupid is focusing on one ridiculous comment rather than the bigger picture.

I think some people are temperamentally just more easily able to compartmentalize. It doesn't mean they're part of the 4% of the population who is actually sociopathic. I'm way opposite in that every instance is like a drop that fills my bucket, and my bucket has just been overflowing lately. We need people like OP, though, because they can stay energized to fight the good fight, which is sounds like she is doing.

I am so like you, OP. I'm curious; how did you feel about 9-11? I am with you in not carrying stuff around with me, and I knew when it happened that it didn't/wouldn't personally affect me in the way it affected other people. Even at the time, people (who didn't lose anyone they knew) were saying nothing would ever be the same for them. The closest I personally was to it was an acquaintance's dad died, which is very sad, but I felt the same level of sad for her as I would have if he had died in a car crash, etc.. I can move on easily from an acquaintance's dad dying in a car crash and 9-11 was the same for me.
