Not emotionally impacted by current events

Anonymous
Am I the only one who doesn’t feel traumatized or fearful by current events - could be anything...shootings, sexism, racism, etc.

Anonymous
I don’t really. I have a very stable, generally happy life and I also have three very small kids at home so I have almost no time or energy to pay attention to much outside my own life right now.

I don't feel traumatized or fearful because this is my everyday life. I'm not even surprised by how many people seem to be acting like current events are brand new. They're not. You're just now paying attention.

I don’t pay that much attention to the news and focus on family, friends, things I can control.

You shouldn’t feel traumatized b/c these things aren’t happening to you.

You should be feeling something though.

I have empathy for those suffering and I fear where our country is headed for my children’s sake.

Wow, you all are just plants, taking up space. No concerns about our democracy? The climate and environmental wreckage were handing down to our kids! No concern at all about our rights being in jeopardy with a new conservative justice to be appointed? No concern for whole cities on fire, businesses and homes burning, innocents shot by police, children growing up fearing for their lives? Well, go back to nursing your 5 year old and counting your millions. There will always be a stupid bourgeoise who can’t see past the tips of their smug noses. One of these days the revolution might just punch you in the face. And then maybe you’ll wake up.

Seriously, you don’t feel anything when you read about a two-month-old dying of covid or hearing a mother cry for her donor daughter murdered by police? You aren’t afraid for your children when you read about the current administration and state of our country?

I can’t believe you have no empathy.

I certainly hope you’re the only one. You should feel fearful if you’re paying attention. Otherwise you’re the dumb chick in the horror movies who gets killed off in the first act. What you don’t know, OP, can kill you or your children.

OP here, I feel bad, it just doesn’t “stay” with me.

I read these social media post from friends and activists and they seem to “carry” it with them. I read/watch...feel bad for a moment and move on. Like it doesn’t impact my work day, etc.

OP here - I logically understand none of this good. I just don’t feel an emotional burden by it.

Doesn’t mean I am not paying attention, calling for change, etc etc etc.

I really don’t get how folks are traumatized by events they were not specifically a part of though.

Wow, OP, you must really lack empathy and be very selfish.

maybe you are very affected by current events and have become depressed and have flat affect as a way to cope with how crazy everything is
