At George Mason I mean...

Yes they can. They have always allowed supplemental documentation.

Ok. By all means try to buy your kid’s way into AAP when they’re changing the process. No skin off anyone else’s back.

My kids are already in. But you don't know any more than anyone else does. You just sound bitter.

I’m not bitter. I just call it like I see it. FCPS says no cogat so privileged parents immediately say “I will schedule it myself and then you HAVE to take it.” The privilege and entitlement is something else.

WISC's can be and are submitted by some parents in the first round of applications. Parents are allowed to provide home work samples, letters of recommendations, awards, and other tests. I am sure a private CogAT would be allowed in the application.

Whether or not the Committee cares about the test score is a totally different matter.

They have to use something as a screening tool. It can’t just be teachers gut intuition which is totally subjective, as are school grades. What do you propose they use to screen?

Still no official words yet.

It is on the FCPS Intranet on the Actiongram for today. It's official. They are still doing a pool. There are detailed FAQs about how it will work and what they are still working out. The bottom line is that they would have to have CogAT taken in the Fall to have scores in time for the spring pool. The state requires an abilities test, so NNAT will be used. If the student has a 1st grade score, that will be used. If they do not have a 1st grade score, they will figure out how to give the NNAT in December. Screening portfolios will be digital.
what is the Actiongram? I’ve done a search and can not find anything. Is this something only teachers get? Why aren’t the FAQs public and how much do they actually have to work out? I wonder how many times FCpS will change this “plan” between now and January!!!!

I’m not waiting for FCPS to figure it out. I am scheduling a CogAt at GMU ASAP.
I have a feeling that they may not allow those scores to be included in a pool or first round if they go through with this. It is total privilege to get private testing. Normally a WISC is sometimes include for those who can afford it during the Appeals process. Given the big push towards equity, I’d predict a major change.

Please. What utter nonsense. They allow any ability test scores to be submitted, including WISC which is more expensive. There is no way they will not allow a private test score in the packet, particularly a test FCPS itself has used every year to form the pool! It’s not my fault FCPS can’t figure out how to administer a CogAT. SATs are being adminsited still.
I do not think you are up to speed on the changes FCPS is making with TJ and APP acceptances. Just from this year alone, we know a bunch of families that are shocked that their kids didn't make it into APP with high Cogat scores and decent/good GDBR's.Every year there are families that are shocked, but this past year seems a bit drastic.

Bottom line. You can all try to predict what you want. We won't know the actual plan until it is formally stated. Our family has been through this twice already. I'm preparing for a major change this year as it has been in the works for several years.

This is fake news. This year will be different because of covid but AAP is not going to be changing significantly. Despite the vocal naysayers, it is extremely important to FCPS.

Please tell us how they plan to screen for AAP without any testing tools?

Except that this year they rejected a huge number of in-pool kids with high WISCs. See some of this year's threads. So it does seem like they are moving toward counting only the most subjective part of the application...

It seems like this, in fact, is what they used this year. My child, along with many others, had in-pool scores, high WISC, nearly all 4s, above grade level noted on report card, and very solid recommendations ... and did not get in. Her GBRS was only so-so.

Well of course they can’t give the Cogat!

Parents would help their children take the test online. Many children cannot come safely into the building.

They almost certainly cannot give the TJ test either

AAP in FCPS is dead.

Elections have consequences. This is what electing only Ds gets you.

You're a funny guy. Do you do standup?

AAP is dead. Long live AAP. AAP version 1.1 y’all! Twice as much equity at half the cost to taxpayers. The future is now
