My DS's NNAT is also low. Will they weigh other data points more strongly such as iready? I wonder how this will work.

We already have a WISC scheduled this fall as part of an evaluation, which we could use. But that's not true for most families.

This will be a good year for them to make the switch to AAP admissions being based on equity instead of achievement.

With no tests except for the unstable nnat, fcpc can just place on teacher recommendation and equity formulas.

Ahahaha equity, a word that means trash

The NNAT from 1st will be used unless they do not have that on file.
Doubt that they will just use the NNAT it is the least of the criteria for placement. I've heard from a few teachers that they are changing the system for admissions into AAP. I can see them postponing placement for 1 year.

whoooaaaa some Karens are going to be MAD

Stop using memes and mysogenistic stereotypes you don't understand

Oh I understand it very well. And yes the Karens will absolutely come out if they postpone placement of incoming AAP third graders. One was already going off on DCUM at the prospect of that last week.

Stay in your lane.

The equity report showed that NNAT was almost irrelevant, and GBRS was over 4 times as important as CogAT scores for selection. This year, the key will be having your child fully participate in the DL and go above and beyond with the DL homework.

Still no official words yet.

It is on the FCPS Intranet on the Actiongram for today. It's official. They are still doing a pool. There are detailed FAQs about how it will work and what they are still working out. The bottom line is that they would have to have CogAT taken in the Fall to have scores in time for the spring pool. The state requires an abilities test, so NNAT will be used. If the student has a 1st grade score, that will be used. If they do not have a 1st grade score, they will figure out how to give the NNAT in December. Screening portfolios will be digital.
what is the Actiongram? I’ve done a search and can not find anything. Is this something only teachers get? Why aren’t the FAQs public and how much do they actually have to work out? I wonder how many times FCpS will change this “plan” between now and January!!!!

I’m not waiting for FCPS to figure it out. I am scheduling a CogAt at GMU ASAP.
I have a feeling that they may not allow those scores to be included in a pool or first round if they go through with this. It is total privilege to get private testing. Normally a WISC is sometimes include for those who can afford it during the Appeals process. Given the big push towards equity, I’d predict a major change.

Please. What utter nonsense. They allow any ability test scores to be submitted, including WISC which is more expensive. There is no way they will not allow a private test score in the packet, particularly a test FCPS itself has used every year to form the pool! It’s not my fault FCPS can’t figure out how to administer a CogAT. SATs are being adminsited still.

You can include a cogat report but if they can’t administer it and ensure every kid who applies has one they won’t factor it into admissions. It’s pretty simple. They cannot exclude kids who can’t get one and favor kids whose families can.

Yes, you're dreaming if you think a private CoGAT will be accepted by the central office. But, go ahead, feel free to put your money into it because you clearly have the ability to do so. Before you do though, you may want to read how well this past summer's appeals went for those who submitted the WISC (an officially 'accepted' form of supplementation for an appeals application). So to think that an unaccpeted form will be utilized, you clearly have no clue about life at FCPS. LOL! You're in for a very rude awakening ...

Of course the rate of success of an appeal is going to be low. Those are the kids that are already lower in the pool. That is not comparable to submitting legit CoGAT scores in the first place. But feel free to stomp your feet all you want. Life isn't fair.

Yes they can. They have always allowed supplemental documentation.

Man, all this "equity" crap really explains why China is eating our lunch for the last 20 years.

Typically 50% of appeals are accepted (that was reported by the Washington Post a few years ago) Maybe this summer was different.

China is eating our lunch because all we invest in is military and war and they just do China.

Who said poor kids can't take the CogAT? Isn't there a sliding fee or free option for Farms or low-income kids?

Ok. By all means try to buy your kid’s way into AAP when they’re changing the process. No skin off anyone else’s back.
