Just to add, that it's not just CASA. Montgomery County operates Immigrant Resource Centers. https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/gilchrist/ |

" I truly think it must come down to money. Maybe we need to follow the money. "
In all things, follow the money. Sorry to stray off topic, but take our incredible national debt as a prime example. Back during the internet boom the USA Treasury was running a surplus and President Clinton naively proposed halting the now unnecessary sale of short term T-bills, he got slammed in the media for committing blasphemy. Just how is our debt serviced? Who, exactly, is paid for performing such services? |
wanting people to be treated humanely does not mean being "pro illegal immigration". |
Depending on where you live, it is actually not fine! In Montgomery County, it is incredibly difficult to not be a Democrat. I didn't vote for Trump in the last election, but will be voting for him in 2020. My kid is old enough to be aware of what's going on, and he know how I feel and why I vote the way I do. However, after the last election, there was some insanely disrespectful rhetoric at school. Like I said, I voted for Hillary, but the kids were saying some terrible stuff about Trump supporters and how they were all stupid and racist and how Trump was an 'orange Cheeto', etc. We talked about it even back then, because I felt that people vote for different reasons, and there's no need to be that disrespectful. My nephew's dad is a police officer, and he has to keep that quiet at school, because where he attends HS, there's a very 'anti-police' sentiment. I find that insane. There is a ton of social pressure on people in MoCo to be liberal Democrats, lest they be labelled racist, stupid a$$holes. |
there's a TON of research out there showing that immigration (illegal and legal) has more benefits than costs for the entire country ... but I don't expect you to engage honestly with it. I tried that here and y'all demonstrated you don't care about actually learning about it. |
Wanting people to be treated humanely does mean that you shouldn't support a system that allows employers to pay low wages and employ workers in terrible conditions so that you can buy cheap chicken. It does mean that you don't support parents passing off their kids to coyotes because they think they make a few extra dollars living her in the US. |
you deserve all the opprobrium you get if you are in favor of Trump's insanely inhumane immigration actions, and the evil rhetoric that goes with it. move to Leesburg if you want a different "culture." |
Thanks for the additional information. so yes, plenty of supportive networks around |
Don't conflate illegal and legal immigration. I completely support legal immigration and would support immigration reform that leads to a more efficient system. But I do NOT support illegal immigration. You can post whatever research you want, but I see, with my own eyes, exactly what illegal immigration costs in my neighborhood. On a daily basis. OP wants to know why you support illegal immigration. Feel free to state you case, as to why you support ILLEGAL immigration. |
short-sighted It does not benefit the school systems. Illegally entering a school is draining, as many are placed into ESOL classes, which means allocations are shifted around. In the long run, your "average" kid is in classes of 30+ students, absent of the necessary rigor to push him/her to the next level. The "average" kids-turned-adults are those who will be paying for your daily a** wipes in the home! We are graduating students who are barely reading AT grade level. "Earning" an A is a joke. So what's our future looking like? So while many illegal immigrants are taking jobs Americans don't want, we need to 1) examine which jobs can be automated and 2) instill in our young citizens (born here, naturalized) the importance of "paying your dues" in the workforce. nothing wrong with a privileged kid serving coffee at his/her local D&D or bussing tables at the local cafe off my soapbox |
nice of you to make a generalization about people in Leesburg And before you slap me down, I'm in a somewhat "rural" area in MD surrounded by hard-working people on both sides of the political spectrum. I don't shame my neighbors, however. You are truly a loving liberal, eh? lol |

Illegal immigration has a hugely negative impact on schools.
All those candidate website except Bidens said they are for amnesty. Terrible policy. |
That is true, but Biden is in favor of doing nothing at all, which only lets the problem grow bigger and bigger. |
Thank you for taking the time to post this. OP can decide for him/herself if these are policies that he/she supports. And, OP can decide for herself how she thinks these policies will affect her community and schools. |
Biden was apart of the administration with the most effective deportation system. The laws that govern deportation work as is but can be improved (ie allowing families to be held together for much longer, ensuring that families are deported together not separately, deported straight from the courtroom or as soon as the deportation is ordered, law enforcement goes to their last known address to deport) so that people dont languish for years after being ordered deported . There can be improvements to other areas of immigration but Presodent Obama's administration did well in this area. |
