Illegal immigration / undocumented workers explain???

The most worrisome thing is that the number of unauthorized immigrants in the US has DECLINED since 2007 (and had declined between 2007 and 2016 btw) as well as border apprehensions.
While the political baiting about invasions has INCREASED and the management of the system has devolved into chaos.

How is it a system that is dealing with FEWER cases is MORE overwhelmed?

There was a bi-partisan bill passed in the Senate in 2013. The GOP controlled House refused to take it up at all. Let's start there. That is what most of the democratic candidates have said.

I don’t know what was in the bill but knowing the democrats probably something pretty favorable towards illegal immigration, akin to DACA.

I posted on another thread that I've been wondering the same thing as OP for years. I sometimes even come on this board to see if I can get a better understanding of where the pro-illegal immigration posters are coming from.

I truly think it must come down to money. Maybe we need to follow the money.

Who is going to benefit from the millions of dollars being spent in CA to provide illegal immigrants with health insurance? Maybe some providers, but mostly it will be the insurance companies who benefit. Taxpayers pay for the health insurance, and the state pays the insurance companies. Maybe that's why that law ultimately passed?

In Maryland, CASA de Maryland is an insanely corrupt organization that is raking in money and has a ton of political influence.

There are plenty of wealthy people in the US who are benefiting from the current system of illegal immigration.

Maybe I'm a cynic, but I truly believe it must come down to money. Why else would there be such a lack of support for immigration reform? This seems like it should be an issue that people should agree on. Illegal immigration benefits nobody, except the wealthy (cheap labor) and politicians (votes).

DP. I agree. Ironically, the child of a legal immigrant, fired after 28 years of work, who volunteered at CASA de Maryland, and told their parent they didn't think they helped with "that kind of advice". If they can't help a legal immigrant, barely keeping their head above water, with some employment advice, what do they do? I can't tell you how sad I am about this legal immigrant - losing their beloved job - over a purely innocent mistake. So, so, so upset.

I think if they had, say, a five-year work visa tied to an industry (not to a specific employer) that allowed them to travel and return, they would be much more likely to maintain ties in their home countries and more likely to leave at the end of the visa.

Agree, but no path to residence/citizenship and no bringing family. However it becomes complicated if they meet in the US and start having kids... so I think birthright citizenship (with all the benefits) has to go, too.

+1 schools get money for butts in seats. It doesnt matter if those butts are here legally. It's about the money at every turn. Even in colleges,they want the tuition no matter who it comes from. Follow the money in every scenario and you will see why so many are advocating hard for this. Nevermind that the money is coming from taxpayers.

Can someone explain why I should be in favor of basically eliminating immigration laws that I have to abide by in every other country? These are all government programs. They should not have access to these. They can buy private insurance directly from the insurance company.
