I have no idea how people have the time for this. I was able to get 10k when I was recovering from a surgery and the recovery included long walks. However, since returning to work, it's impossible. It's not that I don't have the stamina, it's that I drop off kids at school and drive to work, work through lunch, then pick up kids on my way home. Kids are too young to leave at home while I walk for an hour after getting home and they have homework and (understandably) want to play/relax after school. Also, I'm busy helping them with homework, making dinner, doing showers, etc. There is no time for this! |
You take the kids with you — it is good for all. Or get up early while kids and spouse are sleeping. The other people who do this more easily take transit to work, walk kids to school. They stay out of their cars. |
I’m the formerly obese poster with a desk job. I get up from the desk every hour and walk. I use the furthest restroom. I take steps to the cafeteria and to other floors to talk to coworkers, instead of email. I park in the most distant part of the garage. The good part of getting more exercise is that I feel more alert and energetic for more of the day. I am more productive, even with these walk breaks. Doing this may not take you from 7,000 to 15,000. But it could get you up to 10,000 pretty easily. |
I average 18k a day. I don’t have a car and walk my kids roughly a mile to school and back everyday.
Been in car country over the holidays and am struggling to get over 5k. K |
I wonder how many steps, on average, people took before cars? |
I average 11,400 a day. |
I live in a 2400 square foot house and get 8,000 a day just doing chores: laundry, cleaning up, cooking. I would get 2,000 by 10 am even if all I did was eat breakfast, shower and pee twice. |
About 14k per day and a i work FT and live in Ashburn. |
Pp who lives in Ashburn. Every morning i walk to starbucks. Its 2 miles RT and approx 5500 steps. I then walk my kids to elementary school, another 2000. By 745 AM, I have in 7500 steps. I work on the ground floor at work and use thr bathroom on the 6th floor and take the stairs. Unless it is raining, i walk on my lunch break, or walk to lunch, another 2500 steps. Adding in all the bs walking around the office, i often leave each day with 10k. I have a grocery store very close to my home and often walk there foe quick trips. I walk the dog in the evening and it i can squeeze it in, I LOVE getting on my treadmill for an hour and watch a show, but that can happen MAYBE 2xs a week. I will say though, i will NOT do any outside walking when its this god awful cold. Tomorrow AM Im hitting my basement treadmill (and watch my show!)in the morning before work and will drive the kids to school all this week. |
Between 8-10K/day.
I have a pretty sendentary office/desk job. More if I goto the gym. |
in good weather, average 8-10k. In cold weather, more like 5-6k, but then I try to make up for it at the gym. It is still not enough.
I used to walk much more when I lived in DC and took public transport and walked everywhere-10-15k daily was no problem. I moved and now drive everywhere. |
before the cold spell, I hitting on average 12,000-13,000 a day. I eat a quick lunch at my desk and then take 30 minutes (getting me about 4,500-5,500 steps) to walk outside making calls or just sometimes using the time to clear my head. This is on top of working out every morning (either weights or cardio/intervals).
with the recent cold spell, my daily average is down to about 6,500-7,500. |
