Should I report my neighbors for car tax evasion?

One has a car with Wisconsin plates. One with California plates. I suppose they could be exempt but we live in Western Loudoun so I doubt they work on the Hill or are in the military.

I ended up behind the car with California plates today at a stop sign as we both pulled out of our driveways at the same time. The plates expired in June 2024.

I am normally a live and let live person, but tax avoidance costs everyone more. Would you report this if you were in my shoes? I am trying to decide…

What if they’re serial killers? Reporting them could put you in danger.

These are your neighbors. You want to save money? Vote the Republicans out of office in November. They are what are causing your COL to rise.

They probably don't have the money to tag both cars. Virginia is an expensive state to live in.
Have some grace.

Don't be that neighbor. How miserable must your life be to devolve to this level of pettiness.

What is actually wrong with you? Were you born with this character defect or did you develop it later in life?

You've said this to multiple people on this thread. Weird.

There are a lot of very screwed up people with character defects on DCUM. I call them out for it all the time. They need to learn to reckon with themselves as personal failures.

No, I would not report them. You don't know them or their circumstances. And in the world of "tax cheats," if that is even the case here, this is the smallest of small potatoes. If sticking it to tax cheats is your cause, you should focus on the corporations and the ultra wealthy, where the bulk of the problem lies.

You should let them know their plates expired, and cara should now be registered in their state.

I would not report anything.

Military should still have current tags.

They won't have any idea who, if anyone, reported them.

They probably don't have car collision insurance or liability insurance and clearly are not paying the VA "in lieu of" fee. Only hope is they get a traffic stop. If they don't park on the street VA police can't ticket the parked car.

Yes.

For registrations expired for two years? This also means that they are likely driving uninsured. I’m sorry that most people don’t understand the damage that the MYOB idea causes to society.

Then they would pay their registration in their old state.

I’d totally report them.

Then all the more reason to give them the benefit of a doubt. They might be prioritizing medical needs.
