So what is everyone doing when you have a head cold and no telework?

The OP apparently does not.

I work in an open office. When my office mates are sick, they wear masks and quarantine in huddle rooms if possible. I would do the same.

Really appreciate the people I work with.

Another veteran teacher. Unless you are saving up time for maternity leave or if you have kids, use your sick days. I have well over 100 sick days because I pushed myself for no reason. Now I’m using them but I shouldn’t have forced myself to go into work really sick.

I do use mine. We are not allowed to accrue them over a certain amount, so I lose my sick leave if I don’t use it.

I have my own kids, so I often use my available days to stay home when they are sick. That doesn’t leave me many for my own illnesses.

You sound like a fed who just recently returned to the office. If that’s the case, you probably have a ton of sickleave banked. Take the sickleave until you feel better. Don’t come back on day three. And if you are coming back, please wear a mask.

occilococinum, masks, desk humidifiers, elderberry syrup, lots of hyderation.

We had a nasty bug going on in the office that was going around and we were dropping like dominos. The incubation period seemed to be a week, and we were always sick 1 week after the last person was sick. We can’t telework so we were getting the next person sick.

Glad to be done with that

Like one PP, I don’t understand how this is a question. Before covid, people routinely went to work sickish. A cold? I don’t think I ever stayed home from work for a cold. Flu? Yes. Maybe two days. Once the fever is gone, back to work. Cold medicine, throat drops, Tylenol. We all just managed. You cannot stay home for a week every time you have a sniffle and cough.

Wear a mask? I'm not going to make my MAGA supervisor mad at me over whatever conspiracy theory he believes. Much better to show up and let the germs fly

Try gargling Lysol.

Sick or annual leave. Don't infect the office.

No we don’t as we are responsible and save leave for when we are sick while you use it for vacation and are crummy and infect the rest of us.

Lol. A week for a cough?

New poster here. I had pneumonia in my early 20s and a stretch where I had about 6 cases of bronchitis in 5 years. These days (40s) I often need an inhaler for chest colds as I start wheezing. At that point I’d be thrilled if my cough only lasted a week.

I’m in a job where I can telework, but when I was younger and wasn’t and had a cough my supervisor told me to go home. I told her I didn’t have any sick leave (I had only been there a few months and had only earned a few hours of leave). It’s hard!

You either take some OTC and bring them with you while you go to work, or you take a sick day. You seriously do not know what to do????

I even go to the gym if I have a cold. Working out usually helps me get over it faster.

Have you all ever heard of clorox wipes to disinfect your desk and office surfaces?
