You have sick leave. OPM didn't take that away from you. No one is going to fire you if you use it. If they do, you were going to get fired anyway, and no amount of coming in sick and spreading it to everyone else was going to save your job.

NHTSA and have been able to take leave whenever I want.

Up until Covid when TW became more wide-spread, people with minor colds, coughs or flu symptoms came in to work. Even feds.

It was that way for decades. People just didn't take off work for minor illnesses.

have you been completely unaware of the situation for federal employees over the past 6 months? I mean, good for you for being in an agency without RIFS or threats of politically-motivated illegal firings, but that is not the case for many, many others. Your situation is not universal for all feds. Yes, taking leave for some of us puts a target on our backs.
