How do they detect vapes? |
Agree. Why on earth would they purchase a system that requires students to take their laptops out of their bags and hand them to a staff member? I mean get some freaking common sense people. At the mega-schools, there is simply no way to get all the students through in a reasonable time. |
They don't detect vapes, according to the student rumor mill. |
My daughter had scissors and it did not detect it |
They don't |
They don't. FCPS has been clear that the purpose is to detect weapons that could cause "mass casualty" like guns or larger knives. Nevermind that any high schooler could simply walk into their school after hours though various doors for the myraid activities that happen after dismissal and hide a weapon to be used the next day. |
Thanks to Fairfax county's sanctuary policies, this school is one of the worst. It may be called South lakes but it really should be called South American gang land home. This is a place that is dangerous full of drugs full of illegal migrants and full of gangs. It is no surprise that this has happened, but this is what happens when you have the liberal left in charge of the county, let alone Fairfax county public schools. I recommend that Fairfax county implement the administration of Trump's federal guidelines to help reduce the overhead of undocumented migrants attending Fairfax county schools, which would help the budget, help the school and help the safety. You have been warned this is a danger and it will continue to get worse |
If this can prevent (or deter) just one school shooting, it's worth it. |
But...it won't. |
Kids standing in line for an hour every morning missing instructional time? Who chose a system that requires laptops, three ring binders, epipens, wire notebooks to all be pulled out? For 2800 kids thru one door? |
Are you sure they will be at every high school? Even schools like Langley, McLean, Oakton, etc.? |
Why is your future serial killer bringing a knife to school? |
DP. Yes, every single FCPS high school will have them. |
LMAO! Excellent trolling. |
OP here. That is some serious hyperbole. My kid hasn't felt unsafe. Biggest annoyance was the vaping in the bathrooms, which has been happening in school bathrooms since forever. I'm not naive enough to think that there isn't gang activity but unless your kid would like to join a gang, it's pretty easy to avoid that crowd. My kid's friend group brought up a good point. Having 2500 kids all concentrated together in the front of the school is kind of counter productive. Now a driver can just drive plow through or a gunman can drive by and spray. Don't even have to actually go through the effort of getting into the school with the weapon. The more I hear about this new policy, the stupider it sounds. FCPS should have gotten better quality detectors and way more of them for this to actually be effective. |
