Agreed and I wish they would do it or allow parent volunteers to stand at restroom entry and monitor.

this would be a huge liability they would not have "volunteers"

Getting a laugh just trying to picture this.

How many restrooms does the typical high school have?

Exactly

Instead of complaining here, tell your principal and board member how dumb this is and the impacts to learning.

What's concerning--besides all the wasted instructional time--is that none of the seniors are there these past few weeks AND many kids seemed to still be out of town for the holiday. The parking lot was deserted. So it's 45+ minute long lines with only 70% of the students present.

My son got marked absent today....because he was stuck in a long line.

Don't worry he isn't learning anything at South lakes to except street smarts

Like others have said, this is a huge liability. Schools could handle vaping by having administrators combing the hallways regularly and actually giving consequences to students who roam the halls and skip classes. Since neither of these things are happening at most schools, the vaping continues.

We couldn’t get enough volunteers to monitor IB and AP testing. No one is volunteering to monitor bathrooms on a daily basis.

Great idea, PP! Go to the school today and volunteer. Please get back to us and share how it goes......

Let's all be honest FCPS principals hands are tied. The board and Reid are putting on a show to say look at all we are doing to keep students and staff safe. I know we all want safety-I certainly do but as someone said before this it's just theater. My DC told us at dinner that kids at school were talking about the many other ways for people with bad intentions to get in with a weapon. They came up with more ways than are posted here.

I know several parents at my school who are furious about the bathroom situation. Their kids are afraid to go to the bathroom because of vaping, fighting, slap boxing, and videoing others without consent. Some kids even ask to leave school during the day to go home and poop. School admin is aware and does nothing, and does not care. I know several parents who would volunteer to stay outside of school restrooms if the school would allow it. Many parents are very frustrated about the lack of safety in these schools. Many Parents are totally oblivious to the issues happening. I do think parents were volunteer at some schools. Obviously there is issues with volunteer support and there won’t be support at all schools. It sure would be nice to at least have one possible solution instead of just complaining on DC urban walk and depending on admin, who does nothing and do not care about safety. The schools could also adjust budgets to hire more security assistants. Instead we have electives like guitar and ceramics prioritized over safety expenses.

My dd's school canceled the metal detectors today due to rain. Clearly an extremely important safety measure.

Also totally agree on the bathrooms. My child's school has kids leaving during the day to use the bathroom at nearby businesses. Access to a safe, clean, monitored bathroom is much more important than all the BS FCPS spends money on.

Everyone knows bad guys are deterred by rain!

Yes, our very large school had been pulling our traffic cop to help with the metal detectors and the kiss and ride and student traffic has been a nightmare--even with all the seniors gone. He was out there directing traffic today.
