South Lakes had the first day of metal detectors. The lines were really long because students had to basically go through them TSA style. It wasn’t until about 30 minutes into the first class period of the day that everyone finally made it through. Some kids had IB testing today. Has anyone else experienced this at their high school? Why would the principal do this during SOL/IB testing season. And is this even sustainable? 2500 kids through 4 lanes where they had to unload laptops and 3 ring binders before walking through. Then pack back up before heading to class. SMH.
Thanks to Fairfax county's sanctuary policies, this school is one of the worst. It may be called South lakes but it really should be called South American gang land home. This is a place that is dangerous full of drugs full of illegal migrants and full of gangs. It is no surprise that this has happened, but this is what happens when you have the liberal left in charge of the county, let alone Fairfax county public schools. I recommend that Fairfax county implement the administration of Trump's federal guidelines to help reduce the overhead of undocumented migrants attending Fairfax county schools, which would help the budget, help the school and help the safety. You have been warned this is a danger and it will continue to get worse
OP here. That is some serious hyperbole. My kid hasn't felt unsafe. Biggest annoyance was the vaping in the bathrooms, which has been happening in school bathrooms since forever. I'm not naive enough to think that there isn't gang activity but unless your kid would like to join a gang, it's pretty easy to avoid that crowd. My kid's friend group brought up a good point. Having 2500 kids all concentrated together in the front of the school is kind of counter productive. Now a driver can just drive plow through or a gunman can drive by and spray. Don't even have to actually go through the effort of getting into the school with the weapon. The more I hear about this new policy, the stupider it sounds. FCPS should have gotten better quality detectors and way more of them for this to actually be effective.
