Transgender congressperson calls for practical compromise on transgender policy

They have that now on the men's side. They can make it open rather than men, but it's the same idea. It's just the women that are limited.

Sarah McBride is a wise woman. She knows that the only way to neutralize the GOP’s genitalia obsession is for Democrats to back down. As ling as we keep advocating for trans folks, the GOP is going to “help us” publicize it.

It’s time to move on to the “quiet support” stage. We can look out for our people without making them a target. And we can certainly fire the bigots for “performance” issues and ice them out of social circles just like we’ve always done.

Aside from the hardcore trans activists, Dems HAVE been in the quiet support stage. But we have to go even quieter. We have to tell our trans folks that we’re temporarily taking girls’ sports away from them. If we don’t do that, the GOP will make sure our “quiet support” is LOUDLY publicized.

they will do it anyway

offense is the best defense. Dems need bold proposals to help working people and attacks on GOP policies intended to enrich billionaires.

Democrats desperately need bold proposals to help working people. But they also need to listen to Sarah McBride and back off on the trans stuff. Yes, Republicans will still paint us as the party of biological males in girls’ bathrooms, but those attacks hurt us significantly more when we ARE pushing for biological males in girls’ bathrooms. We have to give that a break AND focus our freed up energy better economic policies for the working class.

Calling it "men's" maybe doesn't convey the right message? Might seem like a minor detail, but I suspect to a trans persons could be important.

Democrats barely mention trans people. Republicans will paint Democrats as the party of biological males in girls' bathrooms no matter what Democrats do or say.

It is because Democrats are avoiding saying that they prioritize gender-based rights over sex-based rights, but that doesn’t change the fact that is now their position. Republicans will always have an edge here, so long as Democrats practice avoidance rather than attempting to persuade the electorate that gender-based rights are more valuable and important than sex-based rights. Avoidant behavior makes the problem worse.

Yep. Democrats “barely mentioning” one of their non-negotiable policy stances looks dishonest. Democrats are the reason fishing tackle is sometimes spotted in girls’ bathrooms. We have to either drop it or own it. But the dishonest path of trying to have our cake and eat it too is killing us with voters. Even PRO-trans voters find the dishonesty off-putting.

Is this our argument FOR biological men in girls’ locker rooms? “We’ll be accused of it anyway so we might as well do it”? It sounds like an argument a Peeping Tom would use (unsuccessfully) in front of a judge.

The men's side is theoretically already an open division.

This is why only McBride can deliver this message. Any congresswoman who says it will be crucified as a TERF. McBride retains male privilege in this respect.

Gen Z is far more conservative on this issue than the Millennials.

Transgender wasn't a thing when we were growing up. Gen Z has been exposed to it and doesn't like it. Are they going to show up at every girl's athletic event, look at me, look at me, I exist and I can jump higher, run faster, swim faster... That is going to get old real fast. Pretty soon all of professional women's sports are going to consist of transletes. Yes, there aren't that many trans people, but there aren't that many professional women athletes either.

This would actually be the ideal situation because then you could have competitions specifically for transgender women, while also having traditional women's sports. The problem right now is there are so few transgender women competing at this level there is not a critical mass to have competitions for them. I don't think that is likely to change, frankly, so I think you have to tell them they can compete with men if they are competing at high levels.

Various venues have opened transwomen categories. Transwomen refuse to enter.

I'd love to learn more about this. Can you share a link to more information? Or are you just making this up?

Most famous example is swimming.

So yeah, it isn't the Republicans fault that A) You have an unpopular non-negotiable policy stance and B) They are the ones that make this aware to the republic.

This is exactly what happens with immigration. Pro-immigration is an unpopular non-negotiable policy stance that Democrats have, and the Republicans are the primary source of information on what your policy stance is. Biden's immigration policy, "I'm not Trump", they then spent more time on immigration than anything else hundreds of executive orders. There they are trying to use reconciliation four times in a row to get amnesty. Meanwhile, they didn't do anything on their popular agenda items like minimum wage or whatever.

Yes. The lack of honesty by Democrats is what is making this issue golden for Republicans. And it satisfies nobody.

If the Democratic position is that gender-based rights are more important than sex-based rights, they need to just come out and say that. And yes, that means biological females will lose athletic competitions, and transwomen prisoners will be housed with biologically female prisoners. That is the consequence of elevating gender-based rights over sex-based rights legally.

The problem the Democrats have is that they aren’t willing to embrace the consequences of their legal position. That makes it an evergreen issue for Republicans, because the Democrats come across as both dishonest and without a moral backbone.

These are rights that are directly in conflict. The Democrats have picked their position, and they need to own it. Otherwise, they will continue losing badly on this issue.

Good point. Klobuchar and Warren and AOC literally HAVE to support biological males in the girls’ room or they will be destroyed by angry tarns activists.
