Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
| So today (as in 23 minutes from now) activities are canceled but no info from mcps yet? That can’t be right |
What is there to scramble about? If there are no after school activities today, just go home on your regular bus or walk home. |
|
Some need rides from parents.
|
I'll be money there are 1 or 2 posters here who are getting a kick out of freaking parents out. |
High schools have 2 mile distances with kids who may not normally walk home or the winter gear (no lockers to store) or cleared sidewalks to do it. There are also magnet and IB programs where they need to pick up from bus stops far away from their own homes. Not to mention many COSA’s Stop being obtuse |
People are posting on Facebook as well. It sounds legit |
| They have announced no afternoon activities over the loudspeaker at WJ |
Maybe it's a WJ thing but if it is systemwide and they are closing child care that starts in about 67 minutes and they can't send out a message, everyone at Central Office needs to be fired yesterday. |
| Message just says activities canceled for today. Does not say anything about a delay tomorrow or Thursday. Stop exaggerating people! |
|
I am going to guess it’s to keep teens not walking long distances in the dark on late buses. I bet childcare will stay open.
I wonder about sport games and matches. |
No. I'm a parent, not a teacher. The principal at my children's elementary and middle schools sent a message earlier than other schools, letting us know there's a delay tomorrow and Thursday. They also sent a message early yesterday announcing today's two-hour delay. |
| I got a similar message about afterschool activities being canceled from the theatre director at my kid’s HS but nothing about more delays. |
| My kid is at Poolesville and 8th period was canceled. Will be home at 3 instead of 5. No email from the school or county as of yet. |

It's on the website. |

Einstein kid texted just after 2:00 and said after-school activities were canceled, so they’d come home in the regular bus. So doesn’t sound like it’s a school-specific thing, but I can imagine it’s going to cause some pretty extensive headaches for families.
I can’t imagine it will extend to childcare providers, though. They’d have half the elementary school sitting in the principal’s office for three hours, waiting for their parents. |
