Delay again 1/22 Wednesday?

Anonymous
No all after school activities were cancelled.

So are all school events AFTER 5:30pm

So the only thing happening is sport games (not practices) right after school. And I think they only did this because refs, visiting teams and parents were already en-route.

From the text message: "School-sponsored after-school activities AND athletics after 5:30 PM are canceled."

That’s not correct. My kid is in sports
Practice now and it’s ending at 5:30

If you’re HS kid can’t figure out a ride home you have bigger issues to worry about.

Kid in is SMCS in Poolesville. We live in Germantown. Bus stop is 3 miles from home. They arrived two hours early without notification from the school. But you do you, princess.

I’m not complaining at all, just chuckling that I haven’t received any texts about after school activities or delayed opening. I know because Facebook.

I wonder if thier texting service is down.

My kid’s practice was cancelled based on the early information from mcps. By the time the clarification re 5:30 was sent, kids were dismissed to buses, walking etc so coach operated under cancellation. Communication fail.

Sports before 5:30 are on. Everything else cancelled.

I’m sorry, I’m still not clear here. You could read this to mean that after 5:30, activities and athletics are both canceled. Alternatively, you could read this to mean activities are all canceled the entire afternoon/evening and athletics are on until 5:30, with anything after that canceled.

I am begging Central Office to please hire comms people with very solid punctuation and grammar skills.

Says the selfish parent who expects the rest of us to drive their kids home without even a thank you. No, they cannot as I don’t want them in a car with other teens, too far to walk, no public busses and I’m not a leach demanding another parent do it.

About that. So many teen issues would be solved by switching elementaries to the earlier school time, and high schoolers to the later school time (middle school can stay the same). The sporty kids can have morning practice instead of afternoon practice. Leave the rest of teen brains to sleep in, to suit their displaced circadian rhythm.

Some teens need to work for $.

Which school sent this out?

Troll MS

Why do you keep saying this? It's from a MCPS MS. The message said, all activities, after school events and athletics are canceled.
Jan. 22nd - 2 hour delay.
Jan. 23rd - 2 hour delay.

It's different posters, PP. We are several people who don't believe you.

I'm now on year 14 (!) of dealing with MCPS, and I've NEVER received a message from them about a closure or delay beyond a 24h timeframe. So pardon me, but I need to see proof of this.

What happened to prompt the weird timing of the announcement?

Snow flurries in forecast overnight, colder tomorrow AM. Was it shortage of bus drivers (who get to busses super early like 5:30am)?

Yeah it was communicated so late-there’s no excuse for that. Parents got an email announced it at 254 pm. My kid didn’t know his sport was cancelled and missed the first bus home thinking he had a sport, and I was stressed whether there would even be a 4 pm+ activity bus since all activities were supposedly cancelled.

I am confused by this. School didn’t dismiss early.
