There aren't enough girls good enough to skip college to make a league focusing solely on pro-pathways viable.

You could say for this microcycle and likely growing, with the likes of Barcenas, other Thompson, Macario, Sentor, Fuller, and 6 other NWSL pros I'm forgetting in the current U-20 roster all ready to fight for spots too. There are far more even out plying their trade to this day in Europe and now in Mexico too

DP, but this is a really silly take. Women couldn’t make any real money in professional soccer until very recently, so it made sense to use their talents to get college soccer scholarships. There are plenty of young U.S. women talented enough to play at the highest levels, and more and more will be following in the footsteps of those PP listed. Or they’ll leave college early to go pro. This happens with the men and MLS all the time.

The NBA has a single team geared towards it - G League Ignite. They've had some successes, but even they can't fill out a roster with legitimate draft prospects and that's just a single team 100% backed by the professional league

Not only did other countries not allow women to play, futbol/soccer was all-male. Today, even many of the stadiums for the USMNT are all men. And are the pubs surrounding them, etc. It was fascinating to waltz right into the ladie's loo and be the only one there while there was a line halfway around the stadium for the men's.

The countries that know how to develop players AND identify talent have been doing for over a century. They began applying that to their women's teams about 8-10 years ago. They are catching up and surpassing. You see a lot of the top women players have to go to Europe to play too.

Other countries have civic minded clubs (or at least clubs that pretend to be civic minded) footing the bill. Somehow, I don't see DC united investing in women's and girl's facilites to rival Man City or Barcelona

They actually make money with the women’s team.

Yeah, don’t know about that. The knock rounds of the World Cup did not have many NWSL players. The US players including college are not that good. They lack technical skills and passing ability. Go watch the women’s Barcelona game. 2-3 passes and they are out of pressure, another 2-3 and they are in your box. Kick it long, it’s a turn and the box is back in your box. It’s a different and takes a different skill set vs what is selected here.
