It's simple and delicious. It can be tart or sweet, or both. It combines textures. It can be warm or cold. It's good with ice cream. Great way to use up an abundance of fruits. It's not hard to make and doesn't use weird ingredients. It can be beautifully and intricately made, or simple and rustic.

I love pie. My kids like pie. They request my chocolate cream pie specifically. We made multiple apple pies with our picking haul this year. A good pie is harder to make and way more time intensive than a good cookie. Store-bought pie isn't usually very good. We don't eat pie frequently because I don't take the time to make it, not because we like it less.
One of my first jobs was at a pie shop and most certainly the clients skewed elderly. We also had plenty of young people, but I understand OP's observation that old people especially love pie. I don't see a ton of grandmas excited over cupcakes. Cupcakes are trendy but half the time aren't very good...they photograph wonderfully though! A lot of pastry is something that has ties to traditional cultures and recipes, more than like brownies or ice cream. Maybe when there were more SAHMs who made bread, etc. and had time in the kitchen to bake scratch items that had a lot of resting and waiting time resting it was more popular. |

| Pie is not my favorite, but they are always a celebration of in-season fruit. When yoh only eat blueberries in season, a blueberry pie is very exciting |

Yes, good pie crust is dry, not soggy. It is brittle and shatters into fine flakes when you bite into it -- it is not rubbery, or chewy, or ... soft. WTAF. I added red because you still seem to have a problem with what words mean, good god. You need all the help you can get. Sad. |
