I make pies regularly. It does not take all day! I cook and bake efficiently and can typically get a pie in the oven in a hour. It's even quicker if you get the dough made in advance, I do it the night before and it takes 20 minutes to pull together and then let it chill overnight. Apple pies are pretty straightforward and there is a reason for the old saying as easy as a pie. |
| I am not old but I love pie myself. So many options for fillings and they go well with ice cream. Sweet potato, pumpkin, pecan, banana cream, peach blueberry, apple, key lime.....mmmmmmmm. |
You're a very weird teenager. Don't you have friends? Go back to bullying someone at school. |
| I think most people like most desserts. |
Making the dough: 20 min Chilling 20 min Peeling and slicing apples 20 min Rolling out dough, filling, and chilling again 30 min Baking 60-80 min Cooling: at least an hour That’s not quick. Perhaps if you are going to do it in parts over the course of a couple days it isn’t that bad. But even just the bake time and cutting and peeling and cutting all the apples is significant |
Oh and it is messy too. So factor in more time to clean up |
Blasphemy! Why mess with the perfection that is a perfect apple pie? It’s one of my favorites. Along with blueberry custard, strawberry rhubarb, and chocolate bourbon pecan. Oh, and steak and mushroom if we’re going a different way. And does quiche count? Love that too. |
| I also love pie and I’m not old. I’ve been known to ask for a birthday pie instead of cake! |
Agree, it does not take me that long. Crust takes me about 20 minutes to make and then I chill or freeze. The fruit prep does not take long. All in everything takes less than an hour even if I have to peel fruit. |

Baking takes mine about 45 minutes but I don't count that into "making pie time."
Results are far superior to store bought |

Why are ya'll doing multiple chillings?
I chill the dough once it is made. Roll it. Poke some holes in the bottom. Fill it with fruit. I've never heard of multiple chillings. |

Pie is awesome!
Making crust is a 10 minute activity, tops. Measure the flour & salt, cut in the butter, add ice water and fork it around until the flour absorbs all the moisture. I roll it out right then between two sheets of wax paper, and chill in a thin sheet. By the time I have the filling ready, the crust is cold. Like everything else in life, it gets easier and faster with practice. |
My DD, 6, will take pie over cake 9/10 times. The 1/10 might be if it’s ice cream cake. |
This. My dh loves to make and eat pie and prefers it over cake. I don't, but it doesn't take as long to make as the pp says. |
