Thanks for letting us know you don’t know what the phrase “constant shootings” means. |

Someone posted on SM that he used to work security at another venue on H. They decided to frisk everyone and 1st night turned up a gun. Given the complexities of the response to that, they never frisked patrons again. A LOT of security is theater. Even if there were weapons detectors they would not detect ghost guns.
Seems like a hit. Was the target the man for whom no details were released? This venue is likely closed for good. |
Oh what a beautiful family. I’m so heartbroken for them. |
Enough with the uninformed platitudes. Every month DC MPD gets smaller. They cannot recruit even on pace to match retirements and resignations. The issue is not funds at the moment but the situation was deliberately created. Even with hiring bonuses, etc, MPD cannot effectively compete with other LE options in DMV, of which there are many. |
And what about the 3 children who will now grow up without a father? How does allowing this violence to continue (because insert sob story about the perpetrator) help the children who lose a parent to a stray bullet? If we want to act like a first world country, we need to be protecting our innocent children from violence. Guns are now a leading cause of death for youth in America. But sure, please tell me about how all these shooters just need a hot meal and a hug. |

Before there was the Nightlife Task Force (clearly making a big difference) there was this super impactful one
https://dcist.com/story/23/03/22/dc-homicide-task-force-dissolves/ Their work started well before CV, so, don't @ me about those excuses. |
Putting moms in almost free apartments in Ward 3 with EBT and subsidized daycare has not changed things for those families, instead, it has brought crime and violence to formerly safe areas. There have always been poor and working class people. To conflate those people with violent criminals does nothing but perpetuate a status quo that harms poor people and minorities the most. Long term strategies and investments are just that, from those who are violent TODAY, the public needs to be kept safe. This was a hit. The target likely won't be identified. Same with shooting outside of Assets, etc. Sucks to be in the wrong place at the wrong time though, a man crossing the street in Dupont was also hit in that one, like the several folks and security shot Saturday night. When MPD and Frumin were asked where the other 2 shots went in the recent 3pm on a Saturday shooting in Ward 3, near a playground, BreadFurst and P&P, they did not answer. You may not be in the life and a target, but that may not matter. Or you may be shot or stabbed in a carjacking, as happened last evening in Columbia Heights, near Giant. Or you may get shattered facial bones and a TBI in Union Station going to Amtrak. The common theme is known to be violent people who are not removed from the street, left to prey on the rest of us, poor and MC alike. Who benefits from this status quo? It was set in motion long ago with the closing of Lorton, the schools for violent kids, the shrinking of St. E's, etc. Again, who benefits? Follow the money, although DC Justice Lab makes that challenging. |
| Also, the police RESPOND to crimes and actions. They aren't preventing actions. Prevention needs to be handled by some other source entirely. |
The local jail. |
You are focused on the after effects, I am focused on the before it gets to this point. I am sorry for the loss of that father, husband, brother but that does not change the fact that American culture is inherently selfish and will continue to pay the price for refusing to have expansive holistic coverage for wrap around services, instead its made to be political instead of a basic human right. |
Sadly this. I have no doubt Saturday’s shooter is quite experienced with the local criminal justice system, but has been let loose time and time again to terrorize the broader community. Time to lock these guys up and throw away the key. |
There is at least one shooting every day in DC. What do you think the word "constant" means? |
Maybe what we do instead is impose consequences on the people who keep pushing the idea that police and jail are bad. Starting to seem like they are the problem that needs to be fixrf. |
Lol. If only we did things the “right” way, there wouldn’t be crime, right? I really would like to put you into a diversion program before your ideas do further harm to the community. |
