The deceased leaves a wife and 3 kids.

Very sad situation. I live a stone’s throw away from that place. It recently opened and seemed to attract a rambunctious crowd.

Well MPD has been corrupt for years. Detectives perjuring themselves without any consequences. MPD pushing out officers who are willing to do what the public ask them to do such as speak up against the bad apples. The young men and women who want to be in LEO will choose a better or less corrupt agency given the option.

This quote from the WTOP article is hilarious:

"local resident JB, who [said] the open use of ... drinking at clubs at night keeps her away from the area."

Heartbreaking stuff. I think everyone should read through the comments there before they dismiss concerns about crime as alarmism. So excerpts:

It is a legislation problem. My son was murdered recently by a man who murdered someone in 2016 plead down to aggravate assault & got 3 years probation. While on probation he was stopped with an illegal firearm & not detained or arrested which left him on the street to murder 2 people including my son who was an innocent bystander. After being shot there were no 9-1-1 dispatchers available to answer the influx of calls & it took an ambulance over 30 mins to get to the scene where my son bled to death. SM only reports the events, 87% of violent crimes were declined to be processed by the District Attorney. When the dogs died in that flood they addressed the lack of dispatchers at the 9-1-1 call center. What are our tax dollars going to? What are our elected officials doing to keep the community safe?

This is a good point. Councilmembers and the Mayor demanded accountability when 10 dogs died in a flood. When a violent felon is released early and murders someone? Nothing. You can talk about how terrible it was that these dogs died on the D.C. subreddit. You can't talk about how terrible it was that this 31-year old father was murdered (the post about his shooting was locked; the _multiple_ posts about the dogs drowning were all left open).

MPD clarified that the woman has not died, the 3 remaining victims are still hospitalized. One a woman who said she just wants to get home to her kids, one a security guard and another man.

ANC involvement in nightclub licenses on that block was recently covered in https://dcist.com/story/23/09/11/h-street-gentrifying-anc-liquor-licenses-kitchencray/

I wonder if this event will change anything.

I agree. I really do not understand why we can't get more funding for more policing.
I lean left, and will never vote for a conservative, but come on. Do better, liberals.

What about this incident makes you think the cause is lack of policing?

This is awful, prayers for the victims. Would agree with a pp that this is not a mass shooting.

Don't play dense. At this point we need to basically double the police and crack down hard on any and all crime and vagrancy. So tired of the constant shootings.
