You don't know anything about the murder and call SF a "crap hole"? For all we know, this was a hit. We don't know the details yet, so making assumptions doesn't help.

There will be more and more to the point where we will all be buying guns. I'm not a supporter of owning guns but when everyone will have one, I can see a future where you just have to get one just because and I'm very mortified and sad about this.

I don't know that it's really possible to stop, perhaps possible to delay timeline however. I see it this like I see global warning. We can't really stop it but we can delay it. We can also mitigate the effects of it but I think we're past the point of actually turning it around to stop it from happening.

But I do think things have to worsen unfortunately before we implement strategies to mitigate the violence. I give it 3-5 more years for the above to happen. Depending on how quickly we worsen, we may be delaying this scenario to 5-10 years.

I know - it's depressing and sad but for today, we should be ever grateful we aren't there yet and we can still enjoy being with our families outdoors and not yet worry that the worse will happen in public.

Maybe.

Republican Congressmen were shot at their softball practice in Virginia and that didn't change their minds about guns, so I don't know what will.

See, this is the problem. In a modern, civilized city lots of people are out and about in the center of any city, look at Europe, there are tourists 24/7 in big cities in their “historic centers”. And here it’s implied that it’s dangerous to be out after sundown. It is somewhat true for SF unfortunately

Crimes also happen in Europe. lol Have you spent more than a minute there?

Bob was a very good friend of mine. My husband and I are absolutely devastated. He was extremely kind and generous. He was absolutely brilliant at coding. Imagine one of your friends - the one who is funny, kind, always makes you feel good when you’re around them. That was Bob.

From my understanding he was on good terms with his ex wife. I know it’s fun to speculate but she is a very kind, very sweet person. I am 100% certain she had nothing to do with this.

Bob was a complete night owl. I know back in his coding days, he’d do those crazy hackathons all night. He had no problem staying up late. It is absolutely no surprise to me he was out at 2:30 am. He was probably working late or catching up with a friend at a local bar.

I so wish I could go back in time and tell him to stay in. We are all scratching our heads. I think he must have come across a mentally ill person or just someone who wanted to murder another human being. Bob wasn’t stupid, if he had been mugged he would’ve handed over everything. And he kept good company. He didn’t have enemies. It’s really senseless.

Thank you. It’s a harsh reminder to live life to the fullest, as there are no guarantees.

Reports are he had his phone on him, so most likely random homeless I guess. Lots of CCTV there so hopefully perp caught.

According to the local news site sfgate.com, he was in Rincon Hill which is a neighborhood south of Market St. Honestly, that’s not a part of town I’d have been comfortable walking around late at night. There are condos and such, but it’s not an area with a lot of nightlife and there’s more industrial areas right around it.

What do you expect in SF? That place is hell.

My friend was attempted pickpocketed on the Metro in Rome last week. He actually had to fight two men off for quite awhile.

It SHOULD be safe. I agree that it was a dumb move, but how low we have fallen that people can’t be safe in overnight hours. People in SF are particularly blind to the filth, crime, and open drug use.

Anonymous wrote:I think the poster comparing European cities with their foot traffic and American cities “where nobody but rogue elements really walk on foot” is spot on. Never thought about it like that. It’s sad. SF is worse than many cities but could have happened anywhere in a US city

DC just had a random stabbing - Rand Paul's aid.

My parents both reside in SF.
And I couldn’t agree any more w/the above post.

I do not think this crime can only occur in Frisco.
I believe that the crime itself is not unique only to the area.

No but it's an indication of what is happening now in LA, NYC, and SF. This you cannot deny. Eventually you have got to admit that there are failed policies in all of these cities which are leading to an increase in these types of crimes. And you don't even need to admit that here as i'm sure you likely will not, but if you're being honest then at least admit it to yourself.

+1 And these terrible stabbings...shows what a violent person can do with a knife.
