If you could send your son anywhere for school

Gonzaga all the way, hands down. I have already started this argument w/ my DH, he is very anti-Catholic, and I believe there is no other HS option for my unborn son . I went to a coed Jesuit HS and two different Jesuit universities. I love, love, love the Jesuit education. FWIW, I used to live about 8 blocks from Gonzaga on the NW side of North Capitol on the unit block of O St. Now I live about 14 blocks NW from Gonzaga at 5th and Q. I never felt/feel particularly in "danger" but I was/am very aware of my surroundings at ALL times.

No matter where you are in the city, and I must emphasize NO MATTER WHERE, the vulnerable will be preyed upon. If you walk around with your head in the clouds, playing your iPod, talking on your cell, you are more likely to be taken advantage of. It's just a fact of life.

Well Friendship Heights and Chevy Chase is more akin to the burbs than the city.

St. Albans.

All things being equal, what is the factor that would make a college take a Gonzaga kid over a Prep kid? Please tell.

Gonzaga is viewed as being a more real world experience. Urban affluent tend to be slightly more mature than suburban affluent.

Landon, Prep, and Gonzaga are easier academically than STA. The plus for STA is less emphasis on sports and a strong relationship with the sister school NCS. Single sex with a dash of coed.

Absolutely not true. I have a friend who taught at STA and then at Prep and said he thought the academics at Prep were stronger.

"Absolutely not true" based on one person's statement? I am so impressed.

Well, that is what we do here on this site. Please refer to the statement this was responding to.

I am really not getting this suburban bash. All the people I know who go to Gonzaga are actually from the suburbs.

Exactly, but not bashing. (I am a parent with kids in affluent suburban schools and it was a tough choice.) I think the parents want to give their sons a more realistic experience than the more coddled suburban school, and everything that comes with that.

Sidwell. No question.

I totally get it from my liberal point of view. However, when it comes to my son, i think a few years in an apparently safer high school environment/location (Georgetown Prep) is what I will choose. Again, hard choice, but I will work hard to find other ways he can experience/appreciate that the cocoon of Georgetown Prep. is not realistic and that it is his duty to help others. Just my 2 cents.

Definitely St. Albans.

Excellent and practical way to approach this.

He is a 99% WPPSI kid but that doesn't amount to a hill of beans in these parts (can you tell we are not from here?)! We really value character and ethics. What school/s do you see well-rounded, really nice kids and families? We are Bethesda, but willing to travel. In my travels, I have liked Gonzaga boys quite a bit, but realize the hazard in judging any group as a group.

Thanks.

If I had the option to send him anywhere, I'd send him to Sidwell Freinds.

We had the option to send him anywhere, and we chose St. Albans.
