Private & Independent Schools
|
to any private in the area, where would you send him? My son is showing early athletic ability, but we'll see and is bright but no genius. He is a 99% WPPSI kid but that doesn't amount to a hill of beans in these parts (can you tell we are not from here?)! We really value character and ethics. What school/s do you see well-rounded, really nice kids and families? We are Bethesda, but willing to travel. In my travels, I have liked Gonzaga boys quite a bit, but realize the hazard in judging any group as a group.
Thanks. |
| You mention Gonzaga which is high school, but talk about a WPPSI -- what grade are you looking for now??? |
| St. Albans, Gonzaga, St. Anselms. St. Johns. You said private, but don't overlook BCC. |
| Travel may seem fine, but really wears down year after year. Not fun when DC lives far away from classmates. |
| Highschool. We are happy where he is now (so far!) He is in second grade at Norwood. |
| Gonzaga could be a great choice for what you seek, particularly if you are Catholic. The location is a bit sketchy though. |
| You have at least 5 years before you have to make a decision. Why not wait and see how your son develops. A child in 2nd grade may be nothing like the child in 8th grade. Boys change so much especially in middle school. They are also more than willing to make their preferences known since they are they ones that have to be at the school. What you think is great might not be whatthey want or need from a school. |
| Where do most of the boys at Gonzaga live? |
| I'd send my son to Landon. I've yet to see another school that can offer a better "well-rounded education" than Landon. No, this post is not sarcastic. |
Landon, Prep, and Gonzaga are easier academically than STA. The plus for STA is less emphasis on sports and a strong relationship with the sister school NCS. Single sex with a dash of coed. |
| If you "really value character and ethics," check out the Heights, which is seldom mentioned on this board. Read the website and you will see how different it is from other schools. It is 3-12, but the 3-5 lower school is a boys' paradise. Some boys leave for high school to go to places like Gonzaga and Prep (esp. if they are big athletes), but those who remain get the benefit of really strong relationships with male teachers who are great role models. |
| Do you object to co-ed schools. |
| The area around Gonzaga sketchy? Just stay in the burbs, please. |
