If you could send your son anywhere for school

Is this question for real?
I would like to send my son as an exchange student to any country that has a better education system than the US.
Currently, that list of countries is quite long

Landon, Prep, and Gonzaga are easier academically than STA. The plus for STA is less emphasis on sports and a strong relationship with the sister school NCS. Single sex with a dash of coed.

Absolutely not true. I have a friend who taught at STA and then at Prep and said he thought the academics at Prep were stronger.

I am from DC, and yes it is sketchy. Still a great school but you will want to check it out.

You may be from DC, but when was the last time you lived and/or interacted in DC. Gonzaga is downtown/union station area. Pleeze, you ran to the burbs, now stay in the burbs.

Hey, suburb-hat in' real estate expert, I still work and live in DC. The crime figures for the area in which Gonzaga is in are higher than those for the areas in which other DC privates such as Maret, Sidwell, GDS, Or STA are located. I don't say it disqualifies Gonzaga but it is a factor for some, and if you talked to Gonzaga's admissions people they would say the same (eg they lose students to Prep). They also obviously don't have the field space of some other schools. Again, great place, poster should check it out and talk to some parents (who hopefully won't insult her if she lives outside DC).

We are very Catholic and my son starts HS in 2 years. I love what Gonzaga stands for but will absolutely not consider it bc of its location. It is really a shame.

You mean you are a very suburban Catholic.

A suburban Catholic means clueless about the rest of the world. Perfect GP family. Gonzaga is a terrific school, and its location is one of its great features!! Can't wait for the responses.

I know many families in the burbs who send their sons to Gonzaga. The boys get on the metro and ride in with their parent's or friends.
If you are in Bethesda it is perfect as you are right on the Red Line.

Every young man I have met from Gonzaga I have been impressed with. Even our next door neighbor - who when he was having a party when his parent's were out of town told his friends to quite down - there were kids trying to sleep next door. How could I call the cops on that

"Absolutely not true" based on one person's statement? I am so impressed.

OP specified the DC area in her question. Read. The. Question.

Wow, if I was the Admissions Director at Gonzaga I'd be happy to "lose" a family that didn't want to send their son to Gonzaga because of the location. I have 3 nephews who have all attended Gonzaga from the suburbs. "Amazingly" they are all accomplished young men who above all else are kind and the location didn't cause them any harm. I will definitely consider Gonzaga as a top choice for my DC as well.

What is your hang-up about the suburbs? It seems obsessive.

hahaha. NP here. I think there are two or three different posters regarding the suburb rub. Now you can count another one. What is it about the residents of MD and VA who think that the only acceptable locations in DC are upper Wisconsin Avenue. For shame, for shame

I'm a city resident. One does have to be careful in most parts of the city. If someone is not aware of that -- they'll be in trouble.

Actually, the negative for STA is that they don't push athletics enough. The academics at the others mentioned are better than the athletics at STA.

You're on drugs. No way.

They are both excellent schools. However, the academics at GP are significantly better.
