Are we sleep walking into nuclear confrontation?

Talking about an outright defeat of Russia, regime change, etc is extremely stupid and reckless because any existential threat to Russia OR Putin's regime is going to be met with a nuclear response by them. The US needs to adopt a containment policy and accept the fact that peaceful coexistence with them means not directly intervening in conflicts on their doorstep. That doesn't mean we can't try to punish them by limiting their economic growth via sanctions, or give weapons to the Ukrainians, but saying things like Putin's regime must be defeated and gone, or threatening to directly intervene if certain lines are crossed, is extremely foolhardy, as bad as Putin is. He is going nowhere unfortunately. There are other dirtbags like Kim Jong Un who we can't get rid of either.

You think Putin reads U.S. mass media or DCUM?!? And if he does read it you think he can’t tell a lazy OpEd from reporting actual facts?

High ranking US officials have made it clear they want Putin's regime gone and some like Kinziger have pushed for the US to intervene directly if the Russians use Chem/Bio/Nuclear weapons against Ukraine

Thank goodness Biden and his sr appointees throttle them down. No old f16s, no drones, no sanctions that will personally PO Biden.

I'd take them more seriously if they were sending soldiers over to rape Americans while the SC is rolling back Roe.

Russia couldn’t even get fuel and food to a portion of their troops. Logistics isn’t their thing. They suck.

But, cyber war might be their thing.

Not really. They already tried that. Microsoft, Ukraine and cyber command have been swatting them down. Their cyber-defense practices are extemely weak anyway. Script kiddies have been hacking their systems pretty regularly since the invasion started.

Pentagon just denied it.

I feel like politicians are forgetting we are stretching a nuclear power nation.

Let's not create a policy based on metaphors.

"The Elders tell of a young ball much like you. He bounced three meters in the air. Then he bounced 1.8 meters in the air. Then he bounced four meters in the air. Do I make myself clear?"

Rubber band metaphor was said about NATO expansion .

So if NATO expands, it will snap back?

The reaction to NATO expansion is Putin snapping back.

There is no sleepwalking. This is being done deliberately by the Biden administration. They want war with Russia. Listen to what they say.

At this point, it seems as if Biden wants to get into a hot war with Russia.

Do our politicians know about Russia's military doctrine about use of nuclear weapons?
It has very low threshold.
This is more dangers than during Cuban missile crisis.

Nah. It's not. If Russia nukes then they get nuked. Mutually assured destruction.

Russia invaded Ukraine in a war of territorial expansion (and is doing horribly). Russia has committed mass crimes and atrocities on a level comparable to Milosevic and Taylor. Their goal is the complete destuction of the concept of Ukraine. If they want it to stop they can stop it.

Lets assume they use small tactical nuclear weapon against Ukraine, then what will we do?

Then Russia will have declared a war of agression against the world and a medium sized nuke is used on a comparable site in Russia.

Russia has agency. You don't seem to understand what country is the protagonist in this story.

If we do what you suggested,
We won’t be here to discuss about it.
