No, but it’s a variety of things that are more attributed to liberals than they are to conservatives. For example the defund the police movement, which is poorly phrased, as people who study the actual proposals understand that they don’t want to actually defund the police but moreso implement policies like using social workers to help overdose cases.

However, it’s hard to deny that there is this movement, two move away from car several punishment, and that’s coming from the left. It’s driven by the desperate in packs in the statistics of who is actually getting arrested and going to jail. The problem is all these policies to make it easier for teens to offend and commit crimes and not go to jail, and all these proposed plans like the youth rehabilitation act and the second chance act and basically doing anything you can not to put people in a position where they were punished harshly or put in jail is actually having the reverse effect and causing more crime.

Then there’s the endless verbal attacks on the police from groups like Black Lives Matter who basically portray the police as this menacing force all the time. That’s simply not the case. This is going to have real reverberation effects in November because a lot of the country is looking at you people who in the face of rice in crime are really doubling down on this week on crime policies. I live in PC and their carjackings are out of control.

Also look at the politicians you were electing, for example in New York City look at that councilmember who praised the killer of those two police recently on Twitter. The democrat socialist lady. I’m too lazy to find her name. People see these things that on the left there is this real reluctance to actually tackle crime because the racial statistics are bad. You will need to clean up your act or you’re going to face losing elections and people are gonna move out of the city it’s because they don’t feel safe. You need to arrest and punish people no matter what they look like. Some people can’t get a free pass because they weren’t raised right or were socioeconomically disadvantaged or whatever for committing violent crime. we can’t just keep lowering the bar to try and promote some kind of miss guided social engineering.

Sorry I was voice dictating from my phone. What I meant is the left is much more interested in moving away from incarceration to this sort of restorative justice type of movement and violent criminals notice this and everyone else notices if you commit crime, and now we have rising crime rates, and now you’re acting like you don’t understand why the rising crime rates are correlated.

I don’t know.

That's a lot of handwaving without real substance.

Carjackings are happening more and more all over the city. What happens to these cars after they are stolen? I don't understand how you can easily resell a stolen car. And there are groups of kids doing this; how are kids handling the logistics of getting the cars "laundered" or whatever the word for this would be?

That's the most infuriating part. Many of these carjacking are not even "rational" in the sense of the criminal trying to make money. Often it's just a bunch of kids stealing cars for joyriding and trashing up the neighborhood.

They steal the car as a power trip (removing you in abject fear from your car) and a joyride, sh*TS and giggles. They're 14/15- it's all a lark from waving the gun to careening away for the getaway. They then abandon and / or trash the car. The city does not pull camera footage or make any other coordinated effort for regular stolen cars. You get the call months later when your car has sat collecting tickets for ages (this system does not communicate with the stolen vehicle report) and is then towed/impounded at which point you may be notified finally. Not sure if they handle tracking jacked cars any better, unless they happen to be right on the scene and catch the kids in the act. It all sucks. DC = #canthavenicethings

It’s not just for joyrides or boredom. Cars are also stolen to facilitate other crimes. You’re not going to use a car that you have paper on to go on a robbery spree or commit even worse crimes that might get caught on cameras. The WaPo reported that the car that was taken from that person running for the DC Council (I can’t remember his name but he was carjacked recently), his stolen car was used in connection with two shootings. And juveniles are used to obtain the cars because in DC, its not like they’ll be punished too severely (if at all) if caught and that’s also a big if on even catching them. There’s such an air of lawlessness right now, its pretty unsettling.

The council candidate was jacked for his BMW by guys in a CRV with a “Baby on Board” magnet. Clearly they used a stolen car to steal his car to shoot other people. Pretty wild chain of crimes.

License plates are also stolen, put on stolen cars that are used in crimes as well. Ask me how I know.

Why isn't MPD using its ALPR license plate scanners to find stolen cars, cars with stolen license plates, for amber alerts and other persons of interest?

They really should start doing that.

And for out-of-state speeders and other traffic scofflaws. Find them and boot them or impound their cars.

Kids are bored give them a thunderdome. Skate parks aren't cutting it anymore.

Murder is up. Car jacking is up. But the number one priority is to put boots on out of state cars with unpaid tickets.

Today was yet another instance of a carjacked car being used in multiple armed robberies across DC and PG county. They caught these guys (b/c they were given permission to chase them). Here's hoping PG county gets to prosecute them first so at least they'll be put behind bars, unlike in DC.
