I wonder if the fancy stores in urban centers entice some young people, who cannot afford the clothing but strongly desire them, to rob the stores. No one robs clothings in Walmart.

This is a classic case where being racist makes you stupid.

Does the lulumoon legging make you smarter?

I mean, the videos can be seen online. The race of the perps is clear. Is it now racist to acknowledge the race of perpetrators of crime?

No. But it makes you a stupid racist to think poor, rural white people are not trying to steal from Walmart.

I’m unaware of any looting / violent group thefts at Walmarts in rural areas. This either is not a real thing or isn’t making the news.

Walmart has very strong security and close relationships with local law enforcement. These thefts target stores with high value items, limited security measures and in a municipality with limited appetite for criminal sanctions of this behavior.

Boiling it down to a black/white thing is racist and stupid. Go spend some time in rural WVa/Ohio/Kentucky or visit an Indian reservation. You will get a very strong understanding that poverty is poverty, regardless of race.

But you do you. Keep being dumb and racist. I’m sure you’ll go far.

So your point is that white people aren’t looting stores because it’s harder to do so? Basically white people would be looting local Walmarts if they didn’t have as good of security and relationships with local enforcement ?

Instead I would say that it’s simply not socially or culturally acceptable in these rural areas to loot a Walmart.

Racism and stupidity are strongly correlated. I recommend seeing a doctor to get that looked at.

I live in a rural area with a Walmart as the main store.
The locals here would never dream of committing the crimes we are seeing in urban areas. I am sure there is some shoplifting as you find everywhere. But, the smash and grabs and mob thefts? No way.
First of all, they know if they get caught they will be harshly prosecuted. None of the "restorative justice" here. They will go to jail and will be punished. Secondly, they will bring shame to their families. In rural areas, people actually know each other. A crime like this would be the talk of the town for weeks. And lastly, they have friends and families that actually work at these establishments. They would be arrested in no time.
It just doesn't happen.

I have visited Walmarts in rural areas as well and they seem very tranquil.

I think the important thing to remember is that time will grind on and these little unimportant robberies will be forgotten and there will be others and there will be more carjackings and so forth, but what matters is that we don’t break up families and make people feel bad. Their just things, right? I mean Charles Allen is so prescient. We need to explore the root causes of poverty for a few decades, hire a few violence interruptors at a cost of $9M even if they aren’t proven to work, and we need to shut anyone down or call them a racist if they ask for more policing and stronger sentences for violent crime. It’s about feelings and it’s about making everyone feel safe. I hope we get a million more Karl Racines and Chessa whatever his name is from San Francisco. We can’t stop until every part of the country looks like downtown Baltimore or Kensington Avenue in Philadelphia. Only then will we all be where we should be. Even complaining about crime makes you a gentrifying piece of sht. So just stop. Forget about crime and just read the news and see the crime go up and just accept it.

Yes. We should simply write MPD a blank check so they can hire more officers to sit in their cruisers and play on their phones while sitting in bus lanes and in front of bus stops. I don't even believe MPD has made arrests in the case of the doctor who was mowed down by someone who stole his car at 18 and Florida NW. As high profile a case as it gets.

The doctor was a MD resident so not anyones neighbor or constituent and the mayor said the murders didn’t mean it. So case closed.

wow. This grandma dismembered in NO with carjacking. There needs to be a nationwide response to this. I'm thinking teen criminals should be locked up and not released until 21 AND they meet conditions--counseling, completion of full GED or alternative diploma, behavior on the inside, gainful employment plan or education plan or job training plan and close supervision upon release. You don't just sail out at 21. A board and judge determine if society can tolerate you as a productive citizen ready to make amends. If they can't meet that they stay in until they do.

Of course, the answer is more violence interruptors, which studies show don’t work, more lenient laws like the Youth Rehabilitation Act, and extending its reach to 26 years olds, more hand wringing and naval gazing about the root causes of poverty and endless discussion about inequity and imbalance in incarceration statistics, meanwhile the violence gets worse, families leave the city, because weak liberals won’t do a thing to counter it like make fking arrests.

This kind of sht is why you’ll lose in November. Obviously, those elections won’t do a thing for DC. It’ll probably get worse here for years until finally people have enough and say “maybe a super liberal city council and its novel criminal justice policies that seem to be quite loose and without consequence aren’t working. Maybe people who get punched in the face need more than restorative justice to feel whole.”

Ughhhh we pay too much in taxes to be this weak.

What I meant is on a national level, the normies will see what liberal city councils and their laws do for crime, and they may vote more conservatively. Meanwhile, DC will still keep its liberal law makers and probably vote even more in because this city went 97% for Hillary, which just shows how liberal it is and how much we can’t get anyone tough on crime.

It’s crazy how history repeats itself and yet people don’t learn. Remember the 90’s? Crack? Crime? Boarded up buildings? I do. It sucked. I’m sorry.

Yep. I think that the policies are completely misplaced. We should focus on reforming the incarceration system so that it provides the counseling, training, (and essentially re-parenting) services that the offenders need. And then they need to be put there---away from the law-abiding and non-violent citizens---until they have actually been rehabilitiated. Everyone criticizes the prison-industrial complex----and those criticisms have merit---but the solution is NOT to just let violent predators run loose in the city with no consequences. Instead reform the prison system. I would happily pay higher taxes for a juvenile detention system that intensely tried to counsel, train and rehabilitate. Isn't it Finland that has the prison system with the least recividism rates? Why can't we figure out what they do right and then replicate it? Because neither the progressives nor the current "lock 'em up" far right has the answers.

Finland is monoracial without the legacy of slavery we have here. We have this fked up legacy that happened to African Americans and to American Indians. Check out the crime rates on reservations. Tldr populations that have fked up histories have fked up presents.

The truth is we need to get tough on crime and arrest anyone committing crimes. We’ve had decades of programs and highest school spending in the nation and all this stuff. It’s impossible to just say “oh we need people to be raised right and value education and not commit crime”. It’s impossible for a nation to just take over peoples lives and force them to be productive citizens and not shoot other people. Honestly, we are fked with liberals in charge now, because we all know the future is going to be filled with excuse after excuse to just let criminals commit crime because of quoting disparate impact and the bar is only going to get lower without consequence. The city is already on the decline again. This time because everyone feels bad and just wants these weak policies that don’t have any effect. We are screwed. And for the next few decades we will have all these kids graduating from like super liberal criminal justice reform schools like John Jay where they’ll learn restorative justice and it will just snowball and yes jails will be emptier but more victims will be impacted. I guess we all have to learn the hard way now.

It is no longer about the victims and keeping society safe. Tax paying families will move out.

A Wilson student was arrested Friday afternoon at the end of the day for car-jacking. (or at least that is what all the students are saying)

That would be very sad, if true. However, given the rampant thievery from all the shops near Wilson (filling backpacks at whole foods, filling up personal containers unpaid with soda at McD) Wilson continues to be a behavioral handful. Do the parent community just not care?
