Trayon White was on the news talking about it. She lived in Ward 8

That’s good but it should have had more media attention. What in the world?

That’s about crime generally not specific to this instance.

Carjacking increases do seem to be a real thing. Dramatic increases across the country.

Carjackings are also up in D.C. MPD shared data with Axios showing there was an 18% increase from 2020 to 2021 and a staggering 153% increase from 2019 to 2020. As of January 20, there had been 37 carjackings in D.C.

In 2021, 49 adults and 100 juveniles were arrested for carjacking. That’s way up from 59 juveniles arrested for carjacking in 2020.

Mostly they use it to drive around for a few hours and commit more robberies. They dump it before the plate into gets updated in the WALES network.

I am not sure what the WALES network is but the city does not use it's cameras to find stolen cars. At all. Just to ticket. And the only people who pay tickets are from DC since they have no binding agreements with MD and VA to collect. What a mess.

Stupid how he makes it a "Democrat" as if the political party in charge is the cause. It was "Democrat-run" when crime was at all time low too.

I drive a crappy car partly for this reason.

I think you are misinformed. If a MD or VA driver gets ticketed by camera and does not pay, the bill will be sent to collections which penalizes that persons credit. The only thing the reciprocity agreement would do is also prevent those people from registering their vehicles in those jurisdictions until their DC camera tickets were paid.

The car identified at the beginning of this post was a 10 year old Toyota Corolla. I'm not a car snob, but no one should ever think, "This decade-old Corolla is too flashy." Moreover, its sad that we should have this thought about ANY car.

That's pretty dumb. Low IQ criminals.

And they conveniently ignore that carjackings have increased dramatically in Republican-run parts of the country too.

Current measures are clearly not enough to deter MD and VA traffic scofflaws. And it's stupid that they only use cameras for parking. They should also be using them for stolen cars, amber alerts, BOLOs, etc. But I guess that would freak Republicans out because of "big brother surveillance state" yadda yadda. I think they should do it. At least maybe it would keep the paranoid militia nutjobs and QAnons out and prevent another 1/6.

And when - exactly - was that?

I know you're trying to be funny, but the answer is that it was at an all time low from the mid 2000s through most of the 2010s.
