No, I don't. I don't use slang words for my friends like cracker that other people find offensive. If you think other people shouldn't use it, don't use it yourself. Set an example. It's that simple.

So... you get to decide that other people need to “set an example?”

DP. Setting examples is what cancel culture is all about. You can’t simultaneously think it’s ok to hold
up individual private citizens for public humiliation and huge repercussions (job loss, etc) for what they say, and then also claim that public figures’ use of offensive language is somehow beyond critique.

Where have you been?! Plenty of white “celebrities” have been called out and canceled for using the n word. Even more the reason why this girl doesn’t deserve a pass. This isn’t new.

Please enlighten as to which celebrities got canceled for language they used when they were 15. You are an imbecile.

The imbecile would appear to be you as google is your friend. Also, Mimi didn’t get canceled when she was 15 you dolt.

No, she got canceled when she was 18 for something she said when she was 15. Check your reading comprehension skills, moron.

Wait. The Governor of her state wore black face or a Klan hood while in med school and doesn't get "cancelled." Howard Stern regularly used blackface and the N word for 20 years and doesn't get cancelled. Yet a 15-yr old girl in a private message uses the N word jokingly and that is unforgiveable? It's not like she went on a rant about how she hates any ethnic or racial group. I am also bothered by how casually white children emulating Black culture throw around the N word, but don't believe it is done out of hate. Rather, often the opposite. Google the movie "White Boyz" by Danny Houck and you will see how cringworthy it is when suburban white kids try to do this.

"And wasn’t released until she was in college. Sooooo what age was she “canceled”?"

She was cancelled FOR DOING A THING WHEN SHE WAS 15!

The fact that the cancelling happened a few years later when she was an adult is irrelevant because there was absolutely no allegation in the article that she had done anything in the past 3 years that was racist - it was ENTIRELY about this one dumb thing she sent to her friends when she was 15 years old.

It's entirely likely that she did know that it is a horrible thing to call a black person the N word as a slur, but that she did not see using the term in the context she did (i.e., as interchangable with "you guys" to her friends, not as a slur hurled at someone) as being at all the same thing.

That was wrong but it's not at all like deliberately calling a person the N word as a slur. It's more akin to adults still using "that's retarded" to mean something's dumb without realizing it's become a very loaded word. And that's still setting aside the point that she was just a freshman in high school when this thing happened. Plenty of kids do MUCH worse things and are allowed to learn and move on from them.

She will move on. She won’t learn anything but she’ll move on. Are you seriously trying to act like her life is over? She is white girl named Mimi. She will be absolutely fine. She’ll probably become the next Tomi lahren. And by the comments here, she’ll have plenty of support.

Yes, I do get to have my own opinion and try to practice what I stated myself. If I don't want people to use God incorrectly, I try not to use him in vain as well. As another human being, I have the right to think that the black culture should clean up their own language in their music if they want to be taken seriously that they care about this issue beyond just playing a victim.

So black rappers represent all black people to you? Does this mean Donald Trump represents all white people?

DP. We here about white and black people as a group all the time now - as in “white women come get your people!” and “white men are responsible for Trump” and “black women are heroes.” the flip side of that kind of speech is conceptualizing a “black culture” that might have some agency in things like language in rap music.

I wonder if you are teaching your children that they don’t have to worry about being racist since Black people have so much agency. 🙄

do black artists not have agency in what they put in their lyrics? come on.

Do your kids have to listen to rap music? They can stick with rock, pop, country, etc. I mean those treat women and relationships right.

Why are black artists responsible for black culture but white citizens, politicians, artists, etc. are not? Wouldn’t the Charlottesville events suggest to you that we have a huge racism problem that cannot by addressed by adjusting song lyrics if this were the case? This is why your argument is disingenuous and fails.

The internet lynch mob is driven by nasty, ignorant people. The SJW crowd can be every bit as disturbing as the MAGA crowd. They basically joined a team and now have no critical thinking skills.

I’m not sure why you think humiliating her into becoming the next Tomi Lahren would be a success? I would not be suprised if this incident pushed her to that direction. That’s a bad thing, not a good thing.

"She won’t learn anything but she’ll move on."

What in the world makes you say that?

The article mentioned she had posted over the summer in support of BLM. The article cited no other example of her being a racist aside from this one 3 sec clip when she was 15 years old (3 years ago) where she inappropriately & jokingly used a term she should not have. There is nothing in that article to suggest that she's an unrepentant racist at the now ripe old age of 18. She might be - but there's nothing in what's been reported so far that suggests that information.

You just want her to be terrible to make you feel better for wishing someone who's barely out of HS ill over an unintentional screwup when she was 15.

I listen to a lot of genres, and rap is singular in its use of the n word and gross stuff about women.
