so wait - I read there were 2 arrests made. But the arrests were all part of a Smollett "fake" attack?

A lot of victims are set upon by acquaintances. It appears at least one was acquainted with Smollet but that doesn’t mean they concocted a hoax. It is very possible thugs (one having a prior arrest for attempted murder) thought he was an easy mark and knew of his whereabouts because of information they were close enough to gather from him.

It’s possible they made the MAGA reference to throw him off. Or he could’ve misunderstood what was said.

OP here - I'm the one that posted the first and only notice that in fact it was hoax orchestrated by Jussie to not be thrown off his show. So give it a rest. I'm going with the news as we get it.

He NEVER said they were white. That was likely assumed because of the MAGA reference.

Read the police report (which states he couldn’t give identifying info because of the masks) & his interview.

People hear things and run with it. Like producers have stated several times they weren’t even considering getting rid of him. It had never been a thought-much less conversation. But even the OP came back to say he now understands that assumption to be the case. And how would faking an attack keep him from being fired anyway?

It was dark, freezing and they were covered from head to toe and wearing masks. Who’s making a point to look for identifying details that are not readily noticeable under those circumstances?

Check the Smollett thread in politics--latest update says the two guys were released and they're pursuing other leads.

Released, no charges, not suspects. Info they gave has given police new leads to investigate.

My hypothesis: In addition to the social pressure, another reason the cops kept suggesting Jussie was a victim is because if the Nigerians don’t say everything they know, they could go to jail for a long time for hate crimes. It was pressure to get them to flip.
